Patient Care Technician (Weekend Program) | Perioperative Services

At least one year of prior Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant experience is strongly preferred.
This Weekend Program position works Saturday and Sunday from 6: 00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (24 hours per weekend) and offers:

In this role, you will support weekend perioperative services by assisting with CHG treatment baths, preoperative shave preps, vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, patient transportation, activities of daily living, and other patient care needs.
What You'll Do
- Assist patients with bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulation, repositioning, and transport.
- Obtain vital signs, weights, intake/output, blood glucose testing, and specimen collections.
- Perform telemetry application, bladder scans, simple dressings, and other patient care duties.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and patient-centered environment.
- Collaborate with nurses and healthcare providers to deliver high-quality care.
Title and pay will be determined based on experience and education.

High school diploma or GED required.

Must meet one of the following qualifications:
-
One (1) year of general healthcare experience and meet the requirements of the Patient Care Technician role; or
-
Current enrollment in a Nursing, Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physician Assistant (PA) program with completion of at least one clinical rotation; or
-
Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

Successful completion of e Record training.

Annual completion of a professional contribution, as determined after hire.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program, preferred.

May require successful completion of the applicable UPMC cardiac rhythm course based on organizational guidelines and unit operational needs.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both written and hands-on skills demonstration.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting training required within 90 days of hire or transfer and maintained thereafter.
- Act 33 Clearance with renewal.
- Act 34 Clearance with renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
