What to Expect
The Senior Business Development & Sales Manager sits within Tesla’s Business Development and Sales organization and is responsible for driving complex, high-value opportunities from early engagement through to closed deals. You will own the full commercial lifecycle, strategy, government relations, customer engagement, multi-party negotiation, risk allocation, and executive deal approval, while ensuring consistency with Tesla’s global sales standards and playbooks.
As a senior member of the team, you operate with significant autonomy across multiple workstreams and geographies. You are expected to shape commercial strategy, mentor more junior team members, influence cross-functional stakeholders (Legal, Product, Finance, Delivery, Energy, etc.), and continuously improve Tesla’s commercial processes and contract frameworks. Prior experience closing sophisticated, project-financed or multi-year commercial agreements in energy, infrastructure, automotive, or adjacent capital-intensive industries is highly valued.
Demonstrated ability to navigate bankability requirements, complex risk profiles, and multi-stakeholder environments is a strong plus.
We are looking for someone with an exceptional work ethic, a collaborative and low-ego mindset, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and constantly evolving environment. Tesla values creativity, ownership, and a genuine desire to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do
- Lead end-to-end commercial negotiations for multiple large, complex deals (EPC, equipment supply, long-term service agreements, financing-related structures, and strategic partnerships).
- Own deal strategy and commercial positioning; develop creative structures that balance Tesla’s risk appetite with customer and financing requirements.
- Identify commercial, technical, delivery, and bankability risks early; design and negotiate effective risk allocation and mitigation strategies.
- Drive development and continuous improvement of Tesla’s standard contract forms, playbooks, and commercial tools in partnership with global Legal, Finance, and Sales Operations teams.
- Manage complex internal and external stakeholder landscapes (including government relations) to achieve timely deal close-out and clean hand-off to Delivery/Operations.
- Prepare clear, concise deal parameter packages and present them to senior leadership for approval.
- Contribute to pipeline health, forecasting accuracy, and continuous process improvement
- Represent Tesla externally with C-level and senior decision-makers at customers, partners, and financing institutions.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Finance, or related field (advanced degree a plus).
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in business development, complex sales, commercial negotiation, or contract management, with a track record of closing multi-million to multi-hundred-million dollar deals.
- Proven ability to lead multi-threaded negotiations involving legal, technical, financial, and operational stakeholders.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of risk allocation, bankability, project finance concepts, and contract structures.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and executive presence skills; comfortable interacting with and presenting to senior Tesla leadership and external C-level audiences, including government.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority workstreams simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and deliver under tight timelines in a dynamic environment.
- Highly driven, solutions-oriented “can-do” attitude with personal values aligned to Tesla’s mission.
- Willingness to travel as required and to operate effectively across time zones and cultures.
