What to Expect
You will develop structural systems for vehicle cabin applications, including seating and interior systems. Scope includes but is not limited to seat frames, seat-to-body attachments, console and instrument panel structures, using various materials and processes. You will own system development from concept through production and work cross-functionally to deliver quality, durability, and sustainability.
What You’ll Do
- All phases of the product lifecycle: from concept to production. Concept generation, concept selection, packaging and layout within vehicle, detailed design, validation, manufacturing feasibility, production process, sustainability
- Manage and negotiate product attributes for Safety, Functionality, Comfort, Craftsmanship, Cost, Mass, Schedule, Sustainability (to name a few)
- 3D CAD generation e.g. in CATIA as well as 2D drawing making. Datum & fixation strategy, GD&T.
Bill of Materials Making and owning:
- Use and Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate into product design. Utilize design tools such as DRBFM / DFMEA to enable robust products against their requirements
- Participate and manage collaborative efforts with other departments within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement groups to ensure system integration and compatibility. Cross-functional technical communication with Commercial, Quality, and Supplier interfaces
- Responsible for technical documentation creation for official use and communication
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2.5+ years of experience working with structural design (preferably in automotive seating environment though not a must), working with stampings, castings, plastics, fiber-resin composites, and more
- Having completed full program lifecycle in past projects, from conceptualization to post-launch improvements
- Understanding of automotive seating systems and their roles in system-level tradeoffs
- Solid fundamentals of mechanical engineering: statics, kinematics, dynamics, materials, mechanisms, GD&T, and more
- Proficiency in all channels of technical communication: 3D modeling, 2D drawing, hand sketching, hands-on prototyping, data collection and presentation
- Evidence of Exceptional Ability. Organized. Self-motivated. Able to manage progression through tight timeline. Navigate technical challenges with first-principles
