What to Expect
Tesla's Factory Design Engineering is looking for a Water and Chemical Process Design Engineer to join our Process Design team supporting Terafab, the groundbreaking, large-scale semiconductor fabrication initiative in Texas. The process design team strives to create the factory of the future by bringing conceptual designs to life, and producing cutting-edge detailed designs of chemical and utility systems that are fully integrated with manufacturing processes. As a Water and Chemical Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in our efforts to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do
- Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of process engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for water and wastewater systems such as industrial wastewater, high purity water, water reuse, as well as associated support facilities and chemical systems for semiconductor facilities
- Provide process engineering support to operations to help resolve process bottlenecks and other long-standing issues. Participate in field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution
- Provide technical expertise to the engineering/design team and other groups within organization as a subject matter expect (SME); mentor other engineers & team members
- Lead projects from front-end through detailed design and generate deliverables including: Scoping documents; Basis of Design reports; PFDs; P&IDs; Layouts; and 3D piping design
- Generate process engineering calculations and documentation, including: Aspen simulation where required, pressure relief valve calculations, Pipe-Flo modeling, and pressure drop analysis
- Develop Sequence of Operations / Controls Narrative documents; cause & effect matrices
- Review process design work performed by others on the Process Team to ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality, including P&ID’s, plan drawings, and single line iso’s, review and/or update master piping and equipment specification
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design, process improvement within a high-tech industry such as semiconductor, specialty chemical, solar, battery, etc. Proven track records of project experience with EPC firm are highly desired. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or the ability to obtain comity licensure within 6 months is preferred
- Experience with lime softening, ultrafiltration, ion exchange, reverse osmosis or other advanced water reuse system design is highly desired
- Subject matter expertise related to OSHA requirements for hazardous systems and maintenance access, ASME pressure vessel and piping codes, NFPA codes (E.g. NFPA 30 and 55), and relevant building codes. Working knowledge and experience with permitting of wastewater systems
- Ability to lead or participate in reactive chemical process hazard evaluations and HAZOP reviews of PSM-covered and other hazardous chemical systems
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo. Design engineers are not required to use Revit, but Revit experience is a plus
- Ability to adapt, multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with evolving changes in design requirements. A positive attitude and ability to communicate with peers and stakeholders at all levels including piping designers, stress engineers, other engineering disciplines, customers, and executives
