Matthew Marshall
Junior network engineer with supervised customer-connectivity work and a reproducible routing lab. Collects TCP/IP evidence, prepares reviewed VLAN changes, and checks BGP and OSPF state within the approved change process. Builds Python reports and IPv6 tests that another engineer can rerun.

Junior network engineer
Jul 2025 - now
- Performed read-only checks on customer connectivity tickets, comparing TCP/IP symptoms with interface status, routing tables, and DNS answers; attached reproducible tests so the supervising engineer could choose the next diagnostic step.
- Prepared VLAN access-port changes from an approved template, checked the device and port against the inventory, and ran the agreed connectivity checks after a senior engineer applied the change; recorded the result and rollback reference in the ticket.
- Compared BGP peer states and OSPF neighbors before and after a scheduled maintenance window; flagged a missing adjacency to the owner rather than resetting a live session without approval, and verified the recovery evidence with the NOC.
- Wrote a Python report that reads exported interface and IP address records, checks duplicate assignments, and produces a review list; kept credentials and configuration writes out of the script and added fixtures for missing fields.
- Within the assigned scope, compared BGP route advertisements before and after a peering change, checked prefix filters and maximum-prefix limits, and rehearsed withdrawal without affecting unrelated peers.
- Within the assigned scope, owned a BGP network-design validation using isolated routing fixtures, resolved asymmetric paths and completed redundancy tests before the migration review.
- Within the assigned scope, built Python log-analysis checks using REST inventory data, reduced root-cause-analysis preparation from 50 to 20 minutes and published the capacity-management worksheet.

Data-center operations intern
Jun 2024 - Jun 2025
- Assisted a data-center technician with rack and patch-panel documentation; matched cable labels, switch ports, and circuit identifiers during a supervised walk-through and returned discrepancies for owner review.
- Annotated SNMP and syslog alert examples with the affected interface, time, and maintenance context; distinguished a planned shutdown from an unexplained flap and submitted the event timeline for the mentor’s triage review.

BGP and IPv6 home-lab troubleshooting

Independent lab · no production deployment
Oct 2025 - Apr 2026
- Built a containerlab topology with FRRouting, eBGP between lab autonomous systems, and OSPF inside the test network; drew the address plan and checked expected routes before adding IPv6.
- Injected a wrong prefix filter and an MTU mismatch, then diagnosed each with routing output and tcpdump; kept the failed checks and corrected configuration together so a reviewer could reproduce both the problem and the fix.
- Versioned Python IPv4/IPv6 TCP checks and Ansible configuration previews in Git; ran them against a mock REST API inventory, rejected missing interface IDs, and captured the corrected fixture and passing output for repeatable lab review.
- Owned the recovery rehearsal using an isolated test account, resolved a missing permission prerequisite and completed the restore without changing the working baseline.
