As a CNC Engineer at Zimmer Biomet in Costa Rica, you will deliver advanced technical support to less experienced CNC Programmers, develop and optimise machining processes for medical device manufacturing, and lead process improvements. As a CNC Engineer at Zimmer Biomet in Costa Rica, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the manufacturing of medical device implants by developing and optimising machining processes for multiple-axis centres. What You Can Expect

Provide advanced technical support and guidance to less experienced CNC Programmers. Develop machining processes and programs for the manufacturing of products in multiple-axis machining centers. Take the lead role in process improvement and cost reductions through productivity improvement and machine time reductions, including tools and new product program testing. Aid in data management of the data repository system. Provide input into the purchase of new CNC equipment. Responsible for the CAD system that generates computer models of the parts.

How You'll Create Impact

  • Develip machining processes and programs for the manufacturing of Medical Device Implants in multiple-axis milling & turning centers interfacing with manufacturing engineers, development engineers, quality engineers and production personnel.
  • Analyze part drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selecting cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds, according to knowledge of machine shop processes. Perform debugging and testing of CNC programs in the machining centers.
  • Maintain & troubleshoot existing CNC programs using CAM software, equipment software and measurement hardware. Update and create macros to simplify operator and technician interactions with machining centers.
  • Prepare and manage program files on our central data repostiory (Delmia) ensuring that program traceability and control is maintained.
  • Develop, train and provide technical support to front line technician support ensuring process stability and efficient troubleshooting.
  • Provide input on the purchase of all CNC related machine tools and programming equipment, to include information on controls, program linking and aid in any testing required in the purchase of new CNC equipment.
  • Work closely with CNC machine providers and cutting tool providers to ensure the company leverages current best practices to improve machining efficiency and quality.
  • Prioritize work assignments and provide feedback and coaching to less experienced team members.
  • Assist in preparation of manufacturing budgets, cylce time analysis and machining efficiency figures using theoretical data and demonstrated performance.
  • Ensure that machining processes meet quality standards and process changes are assessed correctly against quality system and design testing requirements.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Trained and experienced in the use of CAD and CAM packages to develop machining programs to manufacture complex parts. (Unigraphics preferred but open to other CAM packages)
  • Familiarity with machining centers, interpreting and developing macros, offering offset guidance and creating probing cycles to imrpove process control and stability.
  • Proficiency with GD&T standards with the ability to interpret design prints and align with machining and measurement solutions.
  • Experience leading and training others helpful. Must have good verbal and written communication skills, be team and customer focused and have good interpersonal skills.

Your Background

  • Degree in related field and 3-5 years related experience preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience with related training/ certification (e.g. Tool & Die, Machinist or NIMS certification
