About the role

Vanguard’s Workplace Solutions Marketing team is looking for a Design Manager who is just as passionate about leading people as they are about crafting great design. This is a true player coach role, grounded in developing talent and elevating creative quality.

In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Design and fellow Design Managers to help the Design Crew thrive through mentorship, training, and clear goals. You will guide and support designers as they develop strong concepts, design solutions, and art direction across presentations, campaigns, video, and more. This is a hands-on role, so you will also roll up your sleeves and create great work alongside the team.

Core Responsibilities:

Crew:

  • Hire, evaluate, and supervise crew:

Provide guidance and training to develop team members. Set performance standards, review performance, and make informed compensation decisions in line with HR policies and procedures.

  • Optimize crew experience:

Listen, empathize, and offer constructive support during one-on-one meetings.

  • Support career pathing:

Help team members make connections and navigate their career paths.

  • Remove barriers:

Empower the crew to seek what they need to perform their jobs well.

  • Identify strengths and opportunities:

Recognize team members' strengths, opportunities, and interests, aligning them with relevant initiatives.

Team:

  • Cultivate and nurture talent:

Foster growth and development within the team.

  • Provide an inclusive design environment:

Nurture a positive team culture.

  • Inspire and motivate:

Drive the team to contribute to common goals.

  • Player/coach:

serve as a high-level Art Director for one of our marketing pods

Who we're looking for:

  • Minimum of 10 years related design work experience, with at least 5 years of leadership and mentoring experience.

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree (BS, BFA and/or Masters) in a design, advertising, or communications field or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.

  • Mac OS/Adobe Creative Suite/Microsoft Office experienced user.

  • This is a hybrid position based in Malvern, PA, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday.
