Description

The Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking a skilled and collaborative Procurement Recovery Surgeon to join its world-renowned Liver Transplant Surgery program. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-volume transplant center dedicated to excellence in patient care, innovation, research, and surgical education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform abdominal organ recovery from deceased donors, including liver, pancreas, and small bowel grafts.

  • Participate in donor organ assessment and determination of organ quality for transplantation.

  • Perform back-table preparation and reconstruction of liver, pancreas, and small bowel allografts.

  • Support organ procurement for research initiatives and preservation of marginal donor organs.

  • Teach and mentor surgical residents and fellows in organ procurement and back-table preparation techniques.

Salary Range: $88,900- $190,300

This is a limited appointment role that may convert to career

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree or Foriegn equivalent
  • 3-5 years in liver or abdominal surgery as a primary or assistant surgeon
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote teamwork in others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel in the transplant program, OPO, other procurement teams and host hospitals.
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to recognize limitations of position and to ask for assistance as appropriate.
  • Ability to constructively incorporate input from senior surgeons.
  • Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in performing under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload.
  • Skill in adapting to unusual circumstances and changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, liver transplant surgery, liver and pancreas physiology and anatomy, safety precautions, and infection control practices necessary in a working in an operating room environment.
  • Skill in analyzing data, information, problems, and procedures to enable the definition of problems or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical solutions and follow up for resolution or implementation.
