Mechanical Design Engineer, Cell Electrode
ポジションについて
What to Expect
We are seeking highly motivated Design Engineers to tackle design and manufacturing on a challenging new mass production line geared towards the next generation of cell manufacturing. You will be working alongside engineers to develop an advanced new product and be among the first individuals to work on cutting-edge equipment design within Tesla. This fast-paced team is the perfect environment if you are interested in developing multiple skills and having an immediate impact on the future of electric vehicles. You will be a problem solver and an idea contributor. You will bring a get-it-done attitude while successfully developing new skills to add to your inventory and grow your career.
What You’ll Do
- Design robust subsystems and creative precision motion mechanisms for large, high throughput roll to roll and slitting equipment with focus on serviceability and performance
- Perform hand calculations for beam strength, deflection, bolts, and welding
- Apply GD&T principles to develop precise specifications and tolerance analysis
- Execute load calculations for fasteners, beams, actuators, transmissions, and bearing elements
- Apply analytical methods and simulations for structural optimization
- Develop assembly procedures, design test fixtures, and calibration equipment, then verify performance in prototype and production environments through rigorous testing
- Lead design reviews at multiple phases
- Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives and tolerance stack analysis to optimize assembly and automation
- Fabricate prototypes and iterate rapidly; collaborate with manufacturing, EHS, electrical, maintenance, and installation teams to incorporate improvements
- Communicate design concepts clearly, oversee equipment commissioning and installation, and support maintenance and service teams
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering
- Detailed and applied knowledge of materials science, machine design concepts, and FEA
- Experience transitioning products from prototype to mass production
- Proficiency in developing automated manufacturing equipment, fixturing, and tooling in 3D (Solid Works preferred, Catia is also a plus)
- Experience generating unique designs through innovation and creativity to solve engineering challenges
- Significant experience in leading design reviews from ideation to production
- High volume equipment design and automation experience required
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~5%)
- Experience in high volume manufacturing involving roll to roll / calendaring / battery manufacturing is highly desired
