What to Expect
As a Mechanical/Process Estimator at Tesla you will be playing a key role in company critical projects at Tesla facilities in Austin, TX. You will understand cost drivers at the fundamental level for mechanical, process piping, HVAC, and related systems while facilitating value engineering efforts cross functionally, enabling Tesla to rapidly scale our manufacturing facilities at high speeds. Semiconductor industry experience is highly valued to bring specialized knowledge of high-precision, high-tech manufacturing environments similar to advanced fabs.
What You’ll Do
- Develop detailed cost estimates as designs develop for mechanical, process, HVAC, piping, and related systems, communicating with various stakeholders on cost drivers and value engineering opportunities across mechanical/process trades
- Understand, develop, compile and present high-level cost estimates for multiple projects at Tesla, with emphasis on process utilities, equipment installation, and systems typical of advanced manufacturing
- Use efficient and aesthetic communication methods to escalate risks and communicate opportunities
- Employ a can-do attitude, ensuring all stakeholders are engaged and aligned to the program goals
- Create what-if scenario estimates for program strategy and decision making
- Develop long term strategy on estimation methodology, tools and systems for CAPEX projects, incorporating best practices from high-tech and semiconductor-style construction
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of experience on large construction projects, 5+ years of estimation experience required (Mechanical/Process piping/HVAC preferred)
- Experience in estimation with Mechanical, Process piping, HVAC, Electrical and life safety systems; Civil, Structural, Architectural a plus
- Semiconductor industry experience (fab construction, cleanroom systems, UHP/process utilities, or similar high-tech manufacturing facilities) strongly preferred
- Experience in value engineering and cost modeling with fast turnaround results
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills are a must
- Knowledge of how things are built at the fundamental level, experience with construction management preferred (especially in semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environments)
- Willingness to get your hands dirty to understand the projects you are supporting
- Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines, aggressive goals and demanding work environment
- Have an inquisitive and open attitude to exploring new ideas and willingness to continuously learn
