Position Overview Mill Utilities are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of various processing and equipment throughout the facility. The General Mills-Kansas City plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Reasons you will LOVE working here: Our #1 Priority is Human and Food Safety! Shift Information: Shift schedule rotation every 6 weeks: 1st shift (7 am to 3 pm); 2nd shift (3 pm to 11 pm) and 3rd shift (11 pm to 7 am) Rotation is 6 weeks on 1st shift, then 6 weeks on 3rd shift, then 6 weeks on 2nd shift Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends and holidays Wages: $21.59 per hour with advancement opportunities Shift differential: $.34 per hour for hours worked on 2nd shift $.41 per hour for hours worked on 3rd shift Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance Paid Vacation and Holidays 401k and Roth 401k Pension And more! Main Responsibilities In this role, you will: Follows all safety guidelines in the department including proper use of PPE and lockout procedures Assists the miller in assuring that the flour milling units and all related systems are performing at peak efficiencies and are producing quality products Checks the screenings from the wheat cleaning processes to assure the most efficient operation Oversees the tempering of the wheat Knows various systems and safety alarms Performs Wheat house start-up and shut-down on A/B & C mills Calculate wheat changes, wheat usage rates, and moisture levels Determines rate that mill is consuming tempered wheat, determine how much wheat is in temper bins, and determines the rate that you are filling the temper bins at and uses data to make a timeline Knows the flow of wheat cleaning and screenings Properly operates A/B and C mills tempering systems Takes appropriate scale readings at their proper times Assists in the sanitation of the mill facility, including sweeping and shoveling Perform preventive and reactive maintenance activities within capabilities on milling department equipment and assist maintenance as needed with higher level tasks. Write and enter work orders Maintains the processing-related areas in an organized and sanitary manner within FDA GMP guidelines; performs routine cleaning activities of all processing areas Performs other tasks and assists other functional areas of the department as needed and required Physical activities include sweeping, shoveling, vacuuming, lifting/opening/dumping a minimum of 50# containers, climbing ladders and stairs, reaching/pulling/restacking packaged ingredients, scooping, maneuvering roll stand rolls, etc. Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship High School Diploma or GED 1 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment Effective written and oral communication skills Proficiency in basic computer skills Must be able to lift, move, push, pull 55 lbs. Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends, daily overtime and overtime outside your regular scheduled hours as required (more than 40 hours per week) Must be able to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions Must be able to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personal lifts, or platforms Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, hair/beard net and gloves when required Work in confined spaces such as bins, silos or tanks COMPANY OVERVIEW We exist to make food the world loves.
