Senior Data Scientist - Global Knowledge Solutions (MN or Remote)

Role Overview: General Mills is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Statistics and Data Science team within the Innovation, Technology, and Quality (ITQ) function. The ITQ function is the center of science innovation, product development, and quality activities for the company. In this role, you will be a key player on a team that is solving business problems within a data-rich science and engineering environment. You will have the opportunity to blend computer science, statistics, mathematics, modeling, and technology to transform data into actionable insights that drive business results. You will join a successful, multi-talented, analytics team and collaborate with partners inside and outside General Mills to further the growth and impact of data science on our business. This role can be based in Minneapolis, MN or fully remote. In this role you will: Work on a wide range of problems using data from consumer research, scientific experimentation, manufacturing operations, and ecommerce and social media platforms. Translate and summarize complex analyses into actionable insights and recommendations that directly influence business decisions. Develop statistical and machine learning models with Python, R, or other languages and tools Scale analytics solutions for big data within Hadoop and Google Cloud Platform environments, working with a wide range of open-source tools. Partner with data science teams in other GMI functions to share standards and best practices and to collaborate on share objectives and areas of common interest. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field; or MS in the sciences, with education in Data Science. Four or more (4+) years of relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to solve business or technical problems. Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships in-person and virtually. Experience in using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions Proficiency with SQL scripting languages, and experience with relational databases such as Oracle and Hive. Experience with an analytics programming language (e.g., R or Python), and with source code repositories such as git. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Python and familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform. Technical skills for delivery and automation: Experience with ETL automation tools such as Airflow; ability to create and use APIs; ability to containerize applications using Docker. Experience working with in an R&D or Science organization, or experience with food industry applications. Experience working within a global team.
