As a Radiation Safety Assistant, you will supervise and perform field activities that support the safe and compliant use of radioactive materials and other sources of ionizing radiation. In this role, you will prepare and decontaminate rooms used for radiopharmaceutical patients, including applying protective coverings to floors and surfaces and completing room tear-down after patient release. You will assist with Interventional Radiology procedures by obtaining patient measurements, support radioactive waste operations by collecting, packaging, and disposing of radioactive waste and maintaining associated receipts, perform radiation detection equipment calibration, conduct laboratory audits, and provide support to Nuclear Medicine and Radiology teams.

A caregiver in this role works Monday through Friday from 8: 00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (flexible)

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Supervise the daily activities of Radiation Safety Technologists. Assists ARSO, RSO, and MHPs in developing policies and procedures.

  • Receive, survey, inventory, deliver, and ship radioactive material to end users.

  • Perform audits of radiation laboratories, radiation surveys, bioassays, and air sampling.

  • Perform radioactive waste collection, sampling, processing, monitoring, and disposal.

  • Provide in-service training for users of ionizing radiation (staff and non-staff).

  • Provide training to Radiation Safety Technologists.

  • Provide radiation safety support for radiation therapy procedures and for clinical/research use of radioactive material and ionizing radiation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate's degree in engineering, biological sciences or related field and two years of progressively relevant experience

  • OR four years of progressively relevant experience

  • Valid State driver’s license

  • Depending on department needs, may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's license (CDL) with hazmat endorsement

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, Health Physics, or another related field

  • Relevant experience as a technician, technologist, engineer, or manufacturing professional, such as a batch or chemical mixer

  • Strong knowledge of safety practices, auditing, and compliance

  • Experience with radiation information and physics

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to wear Level A personal protective equipment.

  • Typical demands require full body motion including ability to lift to one hundred pounds and move up to four hundred pounds.

  • The ability to utilize material handling equipment and climb ladders.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.88

Maximum hourly: $28.80
