Service Engineer Marine at ABB
About ABB
At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we'll give you what you need to make it happen. It won't always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you'll never run alone. Run what runs the world.
ABB is a global technology leader in electrification and automation, enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. By connecting its engineering and digitalization expertise, ABB helps industries run at high performance, while becoming more efficient, productive and sustainable so they outperform. At ABB, we call this 'Engineered to Outrun'. The company has over 140 years of history and more than 105,000 employees worldwide. ABB's shares are listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (ABBN) and Nasdaq Stockholm (ABB).
About the Role
Adventurous. With a lot of freedom. Then working hard, then relaxing at home. Sounds like the job of a marine skipper. And that is perhaps what this position of Service Engineer Marine at ABB can best be compared to. The difference? With us, you know you're in the safe hands of a widely respected multinational.
This Position reports to: Service Team Leader
The Work
As a Service Engineer Marine at ABB, no day is ever the same. Long and very intensive days too. But extremely satisfying. Because your work makes an impact. And in between you have plenty of time off to recharge for your next challenge.
A cruise ship in distress! The propulsion system has stalled! In the evening you are called up. The very next afternoon you leave. Plane, helicopter, other tickets, everything has been arranged for you. You have just had time to read up on the problems, take in technical information, possibly discuss the solution with your colleagues. And... before you know it, your next trip is scheduled. To an oil platform in the middle of the sea, problems with compressors. Costing the customer loads of money. Again, you provide the solution.
ABB Marine & Ports in Rotterdam offers a complete range of electrical engineering and automation solutions for the maritime world. Our systems are based on ABB's leading technology in power, drives and automation. They have proven for decades to meet the high demands of marine and offshore applications. At ABB Marine & Ports, around 60 motivated colleagues make their customers happy every day.
Your Team
Your team consists of 15 specialists, 5 of whom, like you, are involved in service drives. The atmosphere is informal. You will be properly trained so that you get to know all our systems down to the finest details. Furthermore, you will find that working in a compact organisation like ABB Marine & Ports gives you a lot of freedom. Not only will most of the administrative work be taken out of your hands, but there are also colleagues who will see to it that the workload does not become too great for you. We really are there for each other.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining (controllable) drives
- Commissioning new equipment. A lot depends on this: fortunately, you can always rely on other specialists at ABB
- Remedying simple to very complex faults on ships and platforms
- Very occasionally working in an industrial environment as a substitute colleague
Qualifications
Who are you?
- Adventurous and customer-focused: you definitely need to be for the position of Service Engineer Marine Drives
- Independent: although you can rely on your colleagues day and night, on location you are on your own
- A proverbial love of engineering. Therefore, you will have no qualms about continuing to learn and improve
You bring with you:
- An HBO work and thinking level in a direction such as electrical engineering, mechatronics or mechanical engineering
- Several years of experience in a technical-services function, perhaps gained in the SME sector
- Experience with electrotechnical processes in, preferably, the maritime sector
- A good command of Dutch and English in word and writing
- A driving licence B
What ABB Offers You
- A versatile and varied full-time job of 40 hours within an international concern
- Education, training and growth opportunities
- A salary appropriate to your knowledge, experience and this position
- Allowances for working abroad, such as an expense allowance and a daily allowance
- A thirteenth month
- 40 days off (27 holidays and 13 ADV)
- Option to convert part of your leave hours into salary
- A lease car
- An annual allowance for part of your sports subscription
- A good pension scheme
- A company phone and laptop
