About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Digital Technology & Innovation team. This role is part of our initiative to build next‑generation GenAI‑powered,API‑first, and Open Banking platforms for Commercial and Corporate Banking.

You will contribute to the evolution of Wells Fargo Gateway—an enterprise-grade API platform and marketplace offering Wells Fargo’s banking services as APIs. The platform supports EU Open Banking standards, including PSD2-compliant capabilities, and has grown into a leading API ecosystem since its inception in 2016. It brings together an API platform, SDKs, and a comprehensive Developer Portal that enables business customers to rapidly onboard, integrate, and consume Wells Fargo’s financial services.

As the platform continues to scale globally, we are looking for a highly skilled and passionate Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in the Java ecosystem and hands‑on experience delivering GenAI applications in production.

In this role, you will:

• Lead moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within technical domain environments
• Contribute to large scale planning of strategies
• Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments
• Review moderately complex technical challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of technologies and procedures
• Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet existing client needs or potential new clients needs while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, or compliance requirements
• Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve goals
• Lead projects and act as an escalation point, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff

Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

GenAI expertise

Strong Python programming experience for GenAI workflows, experimentation, and integration.

1+ years of practical experience building and deploying Applications powered by:

• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
• Embeddings and vector databases
• Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations and tool creation
• Agent frameworks and agent orchestration patterns

Java & Backend Engineering

• Core Java, J2EE, Design Patterns
• Spring Boot, Spring Security, Hibernate

API & Microservices

• RESTful API development
• Microservices architecture
• Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

Testing & Build Automation

• Unit Testing: JUnit, Power Mock
• BDD experience
• CI/CD using Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, Hyper Execute.

Databases

• MongoDB (NoSQL)
• Oracle / MS SQL (RDBMS)

Job Expectations:

• Good to have experience with APIGEE or similar API management platforms,ReactJS and Redux.
• Exposure to financial APIs, PSD2 standards, and Open Banking frameworks.
