Worldwide Installments (WI) is hiring a Principal Engineer to join our Bangalore team and lead the technical strategy for a high-growth, multi-billion dollar GMS business. WI builds products that make shopping affordable for Amazon customers worldwide, operating across 20+ countries with plans to expand to additional markets and business units including Amazon Stores, Digital, Devices, and more. We offer multiple Buy Now Pay Later/installment payment options to customers with a mission to make installments universally accessible and affordable by treating installments as an extension of price.
As a Principal Engineer at WI, you'll tackle real-world problems at unprecedented scale, owning the technical vision for Installment Pricing and Amazon's installment offerings—multiple critical services operating at Amazon's retail scale. You will drive architectural decisions that impact hundreds of millions of customers around the world and deliver billions in incremental multi-year GMS for Amazon. You can expect to design flexible, scalable solutions for some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing by utilizing your expertise in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. You'll own systems end-to-end and influence technology direction across multiple organizations at Amazon while partnering with senior leadership to shape strategic technical decisions.
- Key job responsibilities
- Define and drive the 3-year technical roadmap for Installment Pricing and Amazon's installment offerings, establishing architectural patterns that will scale across 20+ countries and multiple business units.
- Drive convergence of fragmented regional solutions into reusable core workflow systems that accelerate worldwide expansion and eliminate duplicative development
- Build and scale automated competitive price matching systems requiring deep integration with Amazon's Retail Pricing, Catalog, and Listing systems
- Lead ML-based eligibility and risk modeling for installment offerings, designing real-time evaluation engines that execute inline during customer journeys with sub-millisecond SLA commitments
- Design distributed systems with strong consistency guarantees for payment transactions, ensuring fault tolerance, idempotency, and resilience across Amazon's highest-throughput retail surfaces
- Influence cross-organizational technical strategy by partnering with 35+ teams including Tier-1 services like Retail Pricing, Checkout, Central Search, and Selling Partner Services
- Mentor engineering teams and provide technical leadership across the organization, setting standards for engineering excellence and fostering innovation in payments technology

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 12+ years of professional hands-on software development experience building production systems.
- Proven track record of leading the design, delivery, and operations of large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems that serve millions of users.
- Experience in leading technical design and architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems, with demonstrated expertise as a mentor and technical leader for engineering teams
- Deep expertise in coding, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and designing systems for performance, scalability, and availability.
- Experience driving cross-organizational collaboration and influencing strategic technical decisions across multiple teams and business units.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, from engineers to leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS infrastructure and services
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects in Agile environments
- Experience in the payments industry is a plus
- Experience championing innovation and experimentation with GenAI to accelerate development velocity and enhance developer productivity
