Product Manager, Specialist at Vanguard
About the role
About Vanguard
More than 45 years ago, John C. Bogle had a vision to start an investment company that did things differently. A company with no external shareholders. Where all the profits were invested back into the business and used to lower costs. Evidently, it was as bold as it was brilliant. To this day, Vanguard Group still has no external shareholders. That means no share prices to protect, and no profits to generate for outside owners.
Today, Vanguard is one of the world’s largest investment management companies, serving more than 50 million investors worldwide. For more than 25 years Vanguard Australia has been supporting individual investors, financial advisers, and superannuation members to achieve their long-term financial goals.
Team & Opportunity
Our Growth and Experience team is responsible for shaping how clients experience Vanguard Australia across digital touchpoints. The public website is a critical front door to our brand, products, and services — supporting client education, engagement, and conversion across key audiences.
We are seeking a Digital Product Manager – Public Web to own and evolve Vanguard Australia’s public web experience. In this role, you will be accountable for the performance of the website for defined audiences, working in close partnership with technology, marketing, design, UX/CX, analytics, and risk teams to deliver best‑in‑class, compliant digital experiences.
You will combine strong product thinking with hands‑on delivery leadership — translating client needs and business priorities into clear roadmaps, high‑quality requirements, and measurable outcomes. This role suits someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and can confidently balance experience, commercial impact, technology, and risk.
Core Responsibilities Product Ownership & Strategy
- Own the **vision, roadmap,**and prioritisation for Vanguard Australia’s public website within defined audience or journey scope.
- Translate business strategy, client needs, and regulatory requirements into outcome‑driven web initiatives.
- Balance short‑term optimisation with long‑term platform and experience evolution.
- Act as the single point of accountability for the public web experience within your scope.
Client Experience & UX Leadership
- Act as custodian of the client experience for your audience, from first touch through to conversion and downstream engagement.
- Apply UX best practices, accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG), and content hierarchy principles to ensure experiences are intuitive, inclusive, and effective.
- Advocate for client‑first design decisions while balancing technical, commercial, and regulatory constraints.
- Ensure experience consistency across connected channels and touchpoints.
- Work closely with Personalisation and Marketing Automation teams, as well as other digital product teams, to deliver a connected and relevant end‑to‑end client experience, with the public website playing a key role across journey touchpoints.
Delivery & Execution
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery lifecycle for web initiatives — partnering closely with IT from discovery to delivery, launch, and post‑launch optimisation.
- Write clear, high‑quality briefs, requirements, and acceptance criteria for technology and delivery teams.
- Partner closely with engineering, design, content, marketing, legal and vendors where required to deliver outcomes efficiently.
- Be accountable for quality of delivery, ensuring solutions meet requirements, standards, and client expectations prior to release.
Technology & Platform Leadership
- Lead best‑practice use and evolution of Vanguard’s Adobe digital experience stack
, including:-Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) for content and experience delivery
- Adobe Target for personalisation and experimentation
- Adobe Analytics for performance measurement and insight
- Work closely with technology teams to ensure scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions.
- Understand technical constraints and opportunities and incorporate these into product decisions and roadmap planning.
Data, Insights & Optimisation
- Analyse website performance using quantitative and qualitative insights to identify opportunities to improve engagement, conversion, and task completion.
- Define and track success metrics aligned to client outcomes and business objectives.
- Translate data into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement through optimisation and experimentation (e.g. A/B testing, content and UX iteration).
- Recognise data as a strategic asset, ensuring public web experiences are designed to responsibly support client insight and understanding, aligned to privacy, consent, and regulatory expectations.
External Environment & Industry Awareness
- Stay across changes in the external environment impacting web experiences, including:
- Search, discovery, and GEO/SEO evolution
- Cookie deprecation, tracking, and consent changes
- Privacy, regulatory, and accessibility expectations
- Competitor and best‑in‑class digital experiences
- Proactively assess implications and recommend changes to strategy, experience, or platform capability.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure public web experiences meet legal, compliance, brand, accessibility, and privacy requirements.
- Work proactively with risk, legal, and compliance partners to embed requirements early in delivery.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, approvals, and auditability where required.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
- Partner with stakeholders across Marketing, Technology, CX, Data, Risk, and senior leadership.
- Present recommendations, progress updates, trade‑offs, and insights with clarity and confidence.
- Align diverse perspectives while maintaining a clear product point of view.
- Lead through influence rather than authority.
What We’re Looking For Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in digital product management, website product ownership, or digital experience roles.
- Proven experience owning and evolving public web experiences in complex or regulated environments.
- Experience working with **Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)**and a strong working knowledge of Adobe Target and Adobe Analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead end‑to‑end delivery, from problem definition through to measurable outcomes.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with design, engineering, marketing, data, and risk teams.
- Nice to have:
- Experience in financial services or other regulated industries is advantageous.
- Experience in Marketing Automation, Personalisation, or working closely with marketing automation teams to deliver connected, end‑to‑end digital experiences.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong product mindset with a focus on outcomes over outputs.
- Highly analytical, with the ability to turn data and insight into clear recommendations.
- Exceptional attention to detail — nothing falls through the cracks.
- Demonstrates a strong bias for action, able to make informed decisions and iterate under uncertainty.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and bringing structure and clarity over time.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for senior stakeholders.
- Confident influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Curious, open‑minded, and committed to continuous learning.
Ideal Candidate Personal Attributes
- Customer‑Centric:
Passionate about delivering simple, intuitive, high‑quality digital experiences.
- Accountable:
Takes ownership and follows through.
- Commercially‑Minded:
Understands how digital experiences drive business outcomes.
- Collaborative:
Enjoys working across disciplines to achieve shared goals.
