As an Engineer I in Depot Repair at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll contribute to maintaining and repairing sophisticated scientific instruments that enable our customers to make breakthrough discoveries. You'll diagnose, calibrate, and repair a wide range of precision instruments including spectrophotometers, pipettes, and laboratory automation equipment. You'll provide exceptional customer service while ensuring all repairs meet our rigorous quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced technology while contributing to our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
A day in the Life:
- Calibrate, adjust, and maintain electrical, thermodynamic, electromechanical, mechanical, and photometric/optical measuring and indicating instruments to conform to set standards
- Work from verbal and written instructions and information supplemented by technical job knowledge and experience
- Participate in inter-laboratory comparisons and validation activities
- Prepare calibration data reports, data sheets, and other required documentation
- Resolve problems through speaking with customers, vendors, and management
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
- Manage equipment data
- Handle shipping and receiving as needed
- Serve as backup to Metrology Coordinator when needed
Keys to Success:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associates or Bachelors degree in a scientific field with laboratory experience //military experience
Experience
- 2+ years of work experience in a technology-related field; relevant military experience will be considered equivalent to industry experience
- Broad range of scientific laboratory experience
- Experience with various computer systems for data analysis
- Proven independent work experience
- Demonstrated customer skills
- Direct calibration experience handling, calibrating, or maintaining equipment in a regulated environment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Capable of self-management
- Proficiency with computer tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
- English and/or French proficiency; bilingualism is an asset
- Site position requires no travel
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Primarily in the Metrology Lab, office environment including cubicles, shipping/receiving docks, storage locations, and laboratory environments
- Potential for extended periods of sitting performing repetitive work
- Required to lift up to 50 lbs
- Use of material handling equipment such as push carts and pallet jacks
- Personal protective equipment may be required in certain areas, including lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets, and/or safety gloves
- Some areas may require steel toe shoes, bump hats, and/or safety glasses
- Able to work hours required to complete the job
