You bring strong storytelling skills, an understanding of the public sector and cybersecurity landscape, and the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling narratives.
You thrive in a fast‑paced environment, excel at cross‑functional collaboration, and help keep Public Sector Communications organized and running smoothly through consistent coordination, documentation, and tracking of program performance.
This position follows the Company’s hybrid schedule which currently requires employees to work in the office at one of the following locations a minimum of three days per week: Addison, TX; Bellevue, WA; Durham, NC; Emeryville, CA; or Reston, VA.
What you’ll do:

-
Design and review content for public sector–focused announcements, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and message alignment with broader corporate and policy narratives.
-
Build brand and reputation awareness in the public sector through campaigns that drive engagement across PR, social, and other marketing channels.
-
Manage and maintain public sector award submissions, speaker opportunities, and thought leadership programs to elevate Tanium’s presence in government forums.
-
Develop proactive public sector–focused media pitches and maintain relationships with trade media, government‑focused reporters, and industry influencers.
-
Partner with external PR agencies to support day‑to‑day execution, rapid response opportunities, and public sector‑specific campaigns.
-
Collaborate with stakeholders across public sector sales, federal affairs, product marketing, legal, and corporate communications to ensure tight alignment of messages and narratives.
-
Track, measure, and report on PR and social performance metrics related to public sector campaigns.
-
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Public Sector Communication and the broader communication team.
We’re looking for someone with:
Education
- BA or BS in Marketing, PR, Communication, English or equivalent industry experience.
Experience
-
Minimum of five years of experience in communications, public relations, external affairs, or a related field.
-
Prior experience in a communications role within a technology company, public sector organization, or government agency (local, state, federal, or military) is strongly preferred.
-
Experience supporting public sector audiences, government programs, or cybersecurity‑related topics is a plus.
Other
-
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to distill complex topics into clear, compelling messages.
-
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
-
Creative thinker who proactively identifies new communication opportunities and approaches.
-
Genuine interest in cybersecurity, public sector missions, and protecting critical infrastructure.
