Role Summary

Perform fundamental analysis of SMID (Small- and Mid-cap) stocks to identify key trends and the best-positioned companies. The Analyst will have experience and passion investing in small and mid-cap stocks. Conduct interviews with company personnel at all levels, their competitors, suppliers, as well as industry experts and Wall Street analysts; and communicate recommendations within the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary research on companies and industry by researching, reading financial statements and market data, interviewing management teams, and visiting companies to gain a deep understanding of companies within the SMID space. This due diligence will help support an Analyst’s recommendations for buying/selling specific stocks.
  • Make recommendations to Portfolio Managers to buy/sell specific SMID stocks that the Analyst feels will positively impact the performance of the portfolio. This requires good judgment on the part of the Analyst.
  • Position ideas and convince Portfolio Managers to act on a recommendation to buy/sell a stock. This requires the Analyst to articulate to the Portfolio Manager the risk/reward payoff of the recommendation.
  • Effectively follow up with the Portfolio Manager once they have executed on a recommendation made by the Analyst. This requires the Analyst to provide constant feedback on all meaningful changes in the “story” of the stock to the Portfolio Manager to ensure they have adequate information to make future decisions on the stock.

Qualifications Required:

  • At least 3+ years of experience investing in SMID stocks
  • A strong track record of making successful investment recommendations and generating alpha
  • Strong bottom-up fundamental approach to research
  • Academic excellence
  • Passion for investing
  • Level of maturity and judgment which gives confidence in stressful situations
  • Competitive nature
  • Strong interest in stocks
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Strong writing skills

Preferred:

  • MBA
  • Progress towards a CFA

FINRA Requirements

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to one day per week from home.

Base Salary Ranges

$175,000.00-$275,000.00 for the location of: Maryland, Colorado, Washington and remote workers**$175,000.00-$275,000.00** for the location of: Washington, D.C.
$175,000.00-$275,000.00 for the location of: New York, California

Placement within the range provided above is based on the individual’s relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
