Role Summary & Role Description
The Service Now CMDB Specialist supports the lifecycle, accuracy, and integrity of IT asset and configuration data within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), primarily on the Service Now platform. This role contributes to reliable IT operations, audit readiness, and data quality by executing established CMDB and ITOM processes aligned with ITIL standards.
The role provides hands-on technical support for CMDB, Foundation Data, and CSDM initiatives, working under defined governance with senior team members, architects, developers, and platform owners to maintain accurate and trusted configuration data across the organization.
Support and maintain the lifecycle of assigned Configuration Items (CIs) and IT assets within the Service Now CMDB, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency in accordance with established standards.
Work with Service Now developers, solution architects, and integration teams to support data flows between the CMDB, discovery tools, and external systems.
Monitor and report on CMDB health metrics (e.g., completeness, correctness, compliance) and execute remediation activities for identified data quality issues.
Support Service Now Discovery, Service Mapping, and integrations to ensure accurate and automated population of CI and asset data.
Assist with audit, risk, security, and regulatory activities by providing CMDB data, reports, and evidence in line with defined controls and procedures.
Core/Must have skills
Strong hands-on expertise with Service Now CMDB, including CI classes, relationships, reconciliation, and normalization.
Experience supporting IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Configuration Management processes aligned with ITIL standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality and process improvement.
Minimum 4-8 years of relevant experience working with Service Now, CMDB, IT Asset Management, or related ITSM functions.
Service Now Certified System Administrator (CSA).
Service Now CIS - Discovery.
Good to have skills
ITIL v3 or v4 certification with advanced knowledge of ITIL best practices and the application of concepts a plus.
Working knowledge of Service Now Discovery and system integrations (APIs, data imports, third-party tools).
Familiarity with cloud platforms, hybrid infrastructure, and modern IT operations models.
