Overview

This role is at Spirit Aero Systems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Apply knowledge of structural analysis (e.g., materials technology, finite element modeling, static analysis, fatigue analysis, damage tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, vibration analysis, structural testing, etc.) to determine structural adequacy for customer requirements and regulatory compliance; and to collaborate on structural design, manufacturing, and post-delivery of products. Candidates are expected to perform as individual contributors within a team environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Structural Engineering or other related course of study obtained from an ABET accredited program
  • Requires educational credentials meeting the Spirit classification standards for engineers and typically 2 to 4 years of experience in a stress or structural analysis engineering classification / position
  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment
  • Working knowledge of aerospace industry practices and standards
  • Advanced thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Must be familiar with classical structural analysis techniques, using free body diagrams and internal loads model data
  • Candidate must be a resident of or willing to relocate to the Wichita, KS area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Detailed FEA, having both metallic and composite analysis methods, familiarity with CATIA V5 or V6 tools, and fatigue and damage tolerance analysis.

Union:

This is a union-represented position.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range Associate Engineer (Level 2): $74,750 - $114,600

Summary Pay Range Mid-level Engineer (Level 3): $94,350 - $144,650

Summary Pay Range Senior Engineer (Level 4): $118,750 - $182,100

Kansas Tax Credit: Join Spirit Aero Systems’ Kansas team and you may be eligible for a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years. Click here for more information on the tax credit.
