What You Will Do

  • Drive closure of technical challenges, planning, organizing, leading, measuring, and developing the team to achieve goals
  • Establish goals and priorities for the team by developing plans and decide what must be done to achieve them
  • Understand the scope of goals and how much time and resources are required to achieve them
  • Coordinate the plan Development, Value Engineering, Producibility and Testing activities for the team with the program customer
  • Create and execute a low-cost sourcing plan to align with budget and strategic business objectives
  • Establish metrics and reporting requirements
  • Ensure standard analysis methods are utilized or appropriate mitigation methods when needed
  • Coordinate with internal (cross-discipline, CEO, PTO, & Program) and external customers
  • Motivate team members and create a team environment; use technical experience to lead the team
  • Provide technical direction and guidance, and coordinate with cross-discipline peers and SMEs
  • Recommend and guide design changes to achieve positive margins and improve product performance
  • Develop and implement methods for component qualification and validation
  • Perform tolerance stack-up studies to ensure design integrity and manufacturability
  • Coordinate the activities of both design and stress analysis teams, assigning and reviewing tasks to ensure timely completion
  • Provide leadership and coordination for various project milestones
  • Lead engineering investigations to establish root cause and implement appropriate corrective/preventive actions
  • Communicate goals and relevant information; establish regular staff and individual meetings
  • Be data driven in setting targets and standards, and in appraisal of performance
  • Manage budgets, including indirect and CFE spending, and ensure alignment with program and business objectives
  • Monitor progress for stress engineering milestones and deliverables, and make corrections as necessary
  • Account for all technical deliverables and drive improvement in key metrics: OTD, FPY, productivity and targeted turnback reduction
  • Measure individual performance as it relates to business objectives
  • Recognize the value of employees and develop this critical organizational asset
  • Identify strengths and opportunities of employees
  • Develop staff through training, mentoring, and work assignments; supports the LDR process
  • Communicate and make presentations to senior level leadership
  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally when circumstance permit
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, Aeronautical, or Structural Engineering
  • Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one work area
  • Typically has broad knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization
  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Experience leading a team of engineers
  • Experience collaborating with customers
  • Experience with aircraft structures, parts and/or components
  • Understanding of Producibility Challenges and Supply Chain cost savings initiatives
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement tools
  • Experience with component testing and test results documentation
  • Experience with aerospace component development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Design and/or stress analysis background
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a leadership role within an aerospace engineering environment
  • Strong background in structural analysis, CAD design & Program Management
  • Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects from conception to completion
  • Familiarity with industry standards and platforms like Teamcenter
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE
  • Experience with ENOVIA
  • Ability to represent the company in technical review meetings and have excellent customer relations
  • Coordinate the development and integration of supplier components, including the management of supplier documentation and changes
  • Experience with technical requirements management
  • Proficient at tracking and managing technical deliverables across multiple competing projects
  • Experience with RTCA DO-160 (or equivalent) qualification testing
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical aircraft systems integration
  • Experience with aircraft integration of latching systems
  • Experience with aircraft integration of sealing and thermal insulation systems
  • Experience with failure root cause and corrective action investigations
