About the Job :
Open Shift Container Platform is Red Hat’s premier container initiative, which oversees multiple product lines. It includes a container optimized Linux based operating system called Red Hat CoreOS and an orchestration PaaS framework called Open Shift based on Kubernetes.
The Open Shift Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will work as part of a team, building the next-generation installation and management technology for the Red Hat Open Shift. You’ll be a key member of our Open Shift team and focus on building world-class technologies demonstrating Red Hat’s thought and market leadership in hybrid cloud, system engineering, and Kubernetes management. As a Software Engineer, you will be expected to work in an Agile environment to help keep our products and services competitive with the ever-changing landscape that is containers. We’re looking for engineers who are interested in working on Open Shift, Kubernetes, operating systems, continuous integration, and more.
What will you do?

Develop and deliver high-quality features and bug fixes for Kubernetes and Open Shift components within an agile development team and a global organization.

Champion product quality through proactive participation in peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.

Contribute to and maintain continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure rapid and reliable software releases.

Collaborate across Engineering teams, Product Management, and Support stakeholders to prioritize customer-facing features throughout the planning, development, and delivery lifecycle.

Serve as a key point of escalation for the implementation of critical customer-driven features and the resolution of high-priority bugs.

Stay informed about the Kubernetes community and proactively identify and implement impactful improvements from the wider ecosystem into our Open Shift product.

Assist in the development of architectural and design principles aimed at enhancing the performance, capacity, and scalability of both our Open Shift product and customer-built solutions running on it.

Demonstrate awareness and leverage AI tools (like Claude, Cursor, etc.) throughout the product development lifecycle, exploring their potential to improve efficiency, code quality, and innovation.
What will you bring?

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
-
Minimum 4 years of experience with software development with proven track record of working on enterprise level projects
-
Experience writing code in any of the programming languages, including Python, Go, C/C
-
Demonstrated working knowledge of container technologies, podman and Kubernetes.
-
Knowledge of Git, GitHub, and/or JIRA is required
-
Experience utilizing major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.
-
Familiarity with DevOps principles, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and automation practices.

Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving, coupled with innovative thinking and a strong customer-centric approach
The following are considered as a plus :

Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CoreOS, Fedora, or Red Hat Open Shift

Previous experience contributing to open source community software development

Familiarity with enterprise application development, utilizing agile or scrum methodologies, and competence with various observability tools for monitoring, logging, and profiling is desirable.
