Job Summary

  • Bio Legend is seeking a highly hands-on, “wrench-turning” Facilities Engineer
  • Physical Security & Controls to support a multi-building laboratory and office campus. This role is deeply involved in the physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems—not just design or oversight.

This role is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining physical security systems (CCTV, access control, alarms), low-voltage infrastructure, and facility control systems, while also supporting lab equipment, automation initiatives, and site-wide technical projects.

This is not a desk-based engineering role. The position spends significant time in labs, ceilings, server rooms, and equipment spaces—installing hardware, running cabling, troubleshooting issues in real time, and keeping systems operational.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and control systems, capable of managing vendors, coordinating cross-functional teams, and maintaining detailed documentation in regulated environments (ISO/GMP). This position plays a key role in maintaining operational continuity, supporting audits, and driving continuous improvement across facilities and technical systems.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Designs, implements, and maintains comprehensive security and facility controls across multi-building laboratory and office environments to ensure operational continuity, compliance, and asset protection.
  • Perform and excel independently to design, plan, execute, and maintain security, monitoring, data, and control systems, and miscellaneous low voltage applications.
  • Research applicable equipment and new technologies autonomously to create and implement innovative and cost-effective technical solutions.
  • Install, maintain, and repair security cameras, ID access systems, burglar alarms, equipment monitoring, and facility control systems across labs, offices, and campus.
  • Execute maintenance-level tasks: install, configure, test, and troubleshoot CCTV/NVRs, access control panels/readers, alarm panels, sensors, and related control hardware.
  • Run, label, and terminate low-voltage and data cabling to professional standards; perform cable testing and documentation.
  • Coordinate vendors, manage parts inventories, and maintain administrative records, including frequent updates to vital equipment monitoring system notification lists for each lab.
  • Coordinate security officers, review nightly reports, and make corrective actions.
  • Support electro-mechanical equipment and automation initiatives, building toward maintenance and repair expertise of a state-of-the-art automated order fulfillment system.
  • Work with original equipment manufacturer technicians (vendors) for specialized repairs and upgrades across all supported technical systems
  • Quality Management System Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities, system modifications, and operational procedures adhere to ISO standards, GMP requirements, safety procedures, and internal quality protocols; Maintain proper documentation for audits and validation and conduct non-conformance investigations
  • Provide hands-on support for lab equipment installation, validation, troubleshooting, and repair; Coordinate with contractors and vendors for campus improvements and expansions, and for ongoing maintenance and repairs (e.g. HVAC, fire safety systems)
  • Oversee and support maintenance tasks and projects carried out by facility associates across multiple technical areas
  • Perform as project manager for various Facilities and Operations related technical projects
  • Work directly with warehouse, manufacturing, laboratory, and quality teams to ensure all technical systems support organizational objectives
  • Other projects or responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications–Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with 3 years’ experience in facilities, low-voltage, or physical security systems installation and maintenance.; Or
  • High School/GED with 10 years of highly relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, including coordination/testing with licensed vendors.
  • Familiarity with access control and CCTV platforms (e.g., badge systems, VMS/NVRs) and fundamentals of PLC/BMS/BAS control systems.
  • Experience with CMMS, vendor coordination, inventory control, and diligent documentation practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical/electronic and electro-mechanical systems; ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Hands-on experience pulling and terminating low-voltage/data cabling and using test tools (e.g., multimeter, toner).
  • 4 years of facilities experience in the Biotech industry and/or lab equipment maintenance experience.
  • 2 years of experience using a robust and auditable quality maintenance system, including maintenance records and non-conformance investigation.
  • Intermediate-to-expert understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems with associated troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Must communicate technical information accurately and succinctly to quickly resolve system faults and anomalies.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and provide guidance for Facilities team members.

Perkin Elmer S23 Autosampler issue

I hate this Autosampler so much. It went to working, and not suddenly the Z axis up and down for the probe doesn't work. It will move anywhere you tell it, but the probe itself is not moving up and down. I slowly and gently tested it and it can move (no mechanical obstruction), but is doesn't. There is also this crap on the movement bar. Any idea how to fix this?
