Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Electromagnetic Environmental Engineer (Level 4) to work in Palmdale, California. Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) & Nuclear Hardness Engineers ensure system compliance to electromagnetic environmental effects and nuclear hardness requirements from individual components to the operational weapon system and all development activities in-between. The successful candidate will act as the technical liaison between internal and external organizations.
Additional Acceptable locations: Palmdale, CA (preferred), Rancho Bernardo, CA , Oklahoma City, OK, and Melbourne, FL. Selected candidate must be from a commutable distance from one of these locations or willing to relocate.
Essential Functions:
Primary job duties consisting of Nuclear Radiation Hardening of Aircraft Systems:
-- Nuclear radiation - develop hardening approaches, test plans, test conduct, and analyses showing compliance of avionics to:
-- Neutron fluence/displacement damage (DD)
-- Total Ionizing Dose (TID)
-- Single Event Effects (SEE)/ Ionizing Dose Rate Upset/Latch-up/Burnout
-- SEE circumvention
-- Electromagnetic pulse (EMP)
-- Nuclear Blast / nuclear thermal effects
Secondary duties to include:
Electromagnetic Environmental Effects:
-- Lightning protection
-- Tribo-electric charging (Precipitation-static (P-static), electrostatic discharge (ESD))
-- Electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/C, EMI, EMC)
-- TEMPEST
-- Radio Frequency (RF) cosite
-- Electrical bonding
Application of high-level requirements documents to systems and subsystems:
-- MIL-STD-461
-- MIL-STD-464
-- DO-160
-- MIL-STD-883
Familiarity with
-- NSTISSM TEMPEST/1-92
-- NSTISSM TEMPEST/2-95
-- CNSSAM TEMPEST/1-13
Perform testing, data analysis, and reporting for in-house test activities
--Develop test software/hardware
--Develop and maintain test specifications, procedures and schedules
Witness subcontractor testing and ensure compliance to E3 & Nuclear Hardness requirements
Lead the evaluation of design drawings to verify and correct system design to E3 & Nuclear Hardness standards
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience OR; 6 years of experience with a Master's Degree OR; 3 years of experience with Ph
D in STEM discipline:

Understanding of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects or Nuclear Hardness impacts in hardware and assemblies within aircraft

Previous experience applying MIL-STD-461/ MIL-STD-464 requirements allocation, test procedure development, test execution, or test reporting for components or systems

Proficiency in Lab View and/or MATLAB

Experience in any of the following: RF modeling tools such as FEKO, co-site analysis, low level EMP testing, shielding effectiveness testing, EMC Safety-of-flight testing, or nuclear radiation effects testing is a plus

Primary Level Salary Range: $116,300.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
