  • As a CPS Composite Case Lead Design Engineer
  • Level 4 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
    The candidate will coordinate with the program and other engineers to meet the programs deadlines. This position is responsible for aiding the development and production of composite rocket motor cases and associated hardware. Candidate will contribute to both major design and analytical efforts based on knowledge and experience
    This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Your Role and Impact:

  • Use advanced in-house codes coupled with finite element analysis to create and analyze current and future rocket motor case products.

  • Perform 2D and 3D structural analysis for the design of flight hardware and test articles using Siemens NX CAD software and ABAQUS/CAE.

  • Create engineering drawings and specifications to define design for hardware fabrication, write test plans, support fabrication efforts, oversee testing, analyze test data and revise designs based on results.

  • Provide DE production support including MRB resolution for the CPS program.

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or associated discipline with 8 years of solid rocket moror design and manufacturing experience

  • OR - Master's degree with 6 years of professional experience

  • OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.

  • Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

  • 3D FEA experience with composite structures for stress, strain and buckling assessments

  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics and classical mechanics principles

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter

  • Ability to communicate technical content through email, phone, in-person and group settings

  • MRB DE signature for the CPS program

  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or associated discipline

  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacturing.

  • Extensive background knowledge of the CPS program and history of the insulated composite case design

  • Understanding of composite laminate plate theory (CLT)

  • Structures design experience with composite and metallic materials.

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards:

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
