Department Overview

The Senior Project Manager/Program Manager is responsible for the delivery of assigned projects and governance of all projects as a portfolio of work for Motorola’s customers in a defined territory.
The objective of this role is to professionally deliver assigned projects and govern all other projects, both internally and externally, that satisfy key project (tactical) and commercial & contractual (strategic) objectives. The Senior Project Manager/Program Manager will operate with a ‘client centric’ focus

  • The Senior Project Manager/Program Manager will report functionally to the Project Director.
  • The Senior Project Manager/Program Manager has functional management over Motorola assigned project resources, including Project Managers, and external sub-contractors negotiated for the completion of specific project related tasks.
  • The Senior Project Manager/Program Manager will ensure the success of proposals and projects in close cooperation with the business development objectives identified by the Account Management team and through close and effective liaison with many functional groups within Motorola.

Job Description:

Manages the development and/or implementation of Motorola Solutions products or services. Coordinates departmental or cross-functional teams, focused on delivering new or upgraded existing products or services. Manages projects from inception to completion (or transition), including tracking and evaluation of project performance. Ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and within accepted quality metrics. Participates in project review and status meetings, and communicates project status. Utilizes six sigma and project management methodologies to ensure maximum project effectiveness. Motivates project team to ensure optimal performance. May assist in the development of business plans, strategies, and approaches to take advantage of business opportunities.

Project Delivery

  • Perform the duties of a Project Manager for delivery of projects, and:
  • Align project management objectives with business goals.
  • Overall responsibility for the delivery the program of work while minimising operational impact to existing systems.
  • Identification and supervision of appropriate project management resources.
  • Manage dependencies and constraints between projects and parallel work streams.
  • Manage delivery of project documentation in accordance with customer and Motorola’s requirements.
  • Ensure Project Managers are maintaining high quality project schedules that are aligned to delivery and financial milestones.
  • Provides recommendations and implements program strategy and monitors progress.
  • Provide program status reports (Governance pack) as required.
  • Ensure compliance to Motorola’s risk management framework.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as primary customer contact for project activities, leading program review (Governance pack) sessions with customer.
  • Establish and maintain very close working relationships with the customer and customer project teams as applicable.
  • Physical first Point-of-Contact (POC) for internal stakeholders at Melbourne office.
  • Manage and escalate program issues internally and externally.
  • Effectively manage escalations from Project Managers for subcontractors and third-party suppliers.
  • Escalate delivery risks and issues to Project Director.
  • Assist Project Manager(s) with the review pre-sales opportunities to ensure successful estimation and realistic expectations are set early.
  • Promote customer satisfaction while maintaining compliance to Motorola Quality principles and values.
  • Report to senior and executive stakeholders as required.

Quality & Risk

  • Report on project and program progress and health regularly and as expected.
  • Report on financial status of the portfolio of work internally as expected.
  • Assessment and management of program risks.
  • Ensure Motorola Governance framework has sufficient and adequate coverage to provide oversight across the assigned portfolio of works.

Personnel Development

  • Ensure all of the project management team is trained in specific and related project management disciplines.
  • Ensure periodic review of Project management core competencies across the assigned team.

Basic Requirements:

GENERAL EDUCATION:

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or certification in Project Management or Business Management (PRINCE2, PMBOK).
  • Experience with project scheduling software (MS Project, P6, or similar).

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Communications, Electrical / Electronic), Information Technology or related discipline.

Essential:

  • Minimum of 10 years multi-disciplinary experience in project management within the information technology and/or telecommunications industry.

Desirable:

  • Experience in radio communications or communications infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering or Defence Engineering principles.
  • Contract and financial management.
