Department Overview

The Melbourne Design Centre (MDC) is part of the Software Enterprise, Mobile Video and Cybersecurity Organisation. As a fully integrated R&D and Delivery site, the MDC is responsible for conceptualising, designing, developing and delivering mobile software and services that transform first responder operational response, coordination and management.

Job Description:

GET EXCITED TO:

Test Automation Development

• Coordinate with software developers and QA engineers to develop, implement and maintain automation frameworks

• Design, develop, implement and maintain test automation for both iOS/ Android apps

• Develop new automated test capabilities and expand existing automation suites

• Create end-to-end automated test suites for UI,API and integration testing

Test Planning & Execution

• Analyze software functional/technical specifications and develop comprehensive test plans

• Design and develop manual testing strategies to test product features

• Perform regression, integration, system, and user acceptance testing, including both automated and manual testing as required

• Create and maintain test logs, test reports, and test data

Automation Coverage Enhancement

• Analyze existing test coverage gaps and develop strategies to increase automation coverage across all critical user journeys

• Identify manual test cases suitable for automation and prioritize based on business impact and risk

• Develop data-driven and parameterized test frameworks to maximize test reusability and coverage

CI/CD Integration

• Establish automated smoke, regression, and sanity test suites for CI/CD pipeline integration for Daily runs.

• Implement cross-platform test automation to ensure comprehensive coverage

• Design and maintain automated performance and load testing scenarios

Quality Standards & Best Practices

• Update and maintain test plans and test documentation

• Establish test automation best practices and coding standards to ensure maintainable and scalable test suites

• Create automated accessibility testing to ensure WCAG compliance

• Track issue resolution and defect reports, and document lessons learned

Collaboration

• Work with development teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle

• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability

• Mentor junior QA team members on automation best practices

Basic Requirements:

THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU OFFER US

Technical Skills

• Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or C#

• Experience with test automation frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, etc.)

• Proficiency in API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured, etc.)

• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)

• Experience with version control systems (Git)

• Understanding of software testing methodologies and best practices

Professional Experience

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with test automation

• Proven track record of increasing test automation coverage

• Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in team settings

• Continuous learning mindset and adaptability to new technologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with behavior-driven development (BDD) frameworks

• Experience with mobile test automation

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

• ISTQB or similar QA certifications

• Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, Load Runner)

• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Knowledge of database testing and SQL
