Join Microsoft AI (MAI), the team behind Bing, Copilot, MSN, Microsoft Advertising, and Edge, as we build transformative AI experiences. We’re looking for a Software Development Engineer II who embodies the future of engineering to design and build scalable, high-performance solutions. In this role, you will work across the full stack—spanning Frontend and Backend—combining robust engineering practices with the power of modern AI to deliver critical features for Copilot and our broader ecosystem.

Location & Hybrid Work Policy: Starting January 26, 2026, MAI employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

  • Responsibilities- Drive End-to-End Development: Lead the technical design, implementation, and deployment of critical AI services and user interfaces.
  • Champion AI-Native Engineering: Leverage your deep understanding of advanced AI solution and frontline AI coding experience to significantly accelerate development cycles.
  • Pioneer AI-Assisted Workflows: Actively integrate the latest advancements in AI programming into your daily workflow to efficiently build low-latency backends and highly responsive frontends.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with Research, Product, and Design teams to translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive, user-aligned product experiences.
  • Architect from the Ground Up: Design, build, and operationalize durable, scalable software systems that form the foundation of our products.
  • Maintain Engineering Excellence: Creatively apply AI coding tools to solve complex technical challenges while ensuring the codebase remains highly maintainable, testable, and ready for rapid iteration.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of full-stack development, including deep proficiency in both Frontend frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript) and Backend services, with a strong grasp of scalable system architecture and design patterns.
  • A highly open mindset with a relentless drive for continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated willingness to embrace new technologies, tools, and paradigms especially the rapid evolution of AI coding workflows and apply them to solve complex engineering challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
