CMP Supplier Quality Engineer

As a CMP Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be accountable for supporting the overall CMP materials suppliers quality program. Implementing quality plans and excursion prevention programs to drive supplier development through Continuous Improvement initiatives. Your role ensures that advanced Quality controls are consistently applied to all CMP materials and services provided for Micron.
You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders—including Global Quality, Global Procurement, the Global Operation Central Team (OCT), Operations, Product Engineering, and R&D—to develop, execute, and assess the effectiveness of supplier programs. Additionally, you will facilitate Supplier Performance Reviews to provide suppliers with timely and accurate feedback based on standardized metrics, supplier Quality issues are effectively mitigated and ensuring that the expectation of continuous improvement is clearly communicated and achieved.
Role Responsibilities & Tasks
- Sourcing, Selection and Qualification Phase
- Lead quality risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to support qualification activities.
- Provide quality-focused input and recommendations on global sourcing and segmentation strategies, including business continuity planning, benchmarking, new market evaluations, RFQ/RFI processes, supplier selection, cost-saving initiatives, and related analytics.
- Conduct technical risk assessment audits for new suppliers and materials to evaluate their capability and readiness for High-Volume Manufacturing (HVM).
- Establish, communicate, and ensure supplier compliance with Micron’s Supplier Requirements Standards (SRS).
- Supplier Development and Excursion Management
- Lead the definition and alignment of global material specifications for CMP materials ensuring collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Support Material Category Leads in shaping the Category Quality Strategy, including the development of the Quality Roadmap and Defense Line Program.
- Implement quality programs, share lessons learned, and conduct benchmarking with suppliers to establish robust controls and preventive measures aligned with the Shift-Left Strategy.
- Facilitate regular Quality and Technical Review (QTR) meetings with both strategic and developing suppliers.
- Manage supplier and sub-supplier changes through the Supplier Change Management (SCM) process.
- Oversee the resolution of globally impacting Photochemical quality issues, ensuring appropriate prioritization.
- Collaborate with Global OCT MTE, Operations, and Facility teams to conduct deep-dive root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Cascade lessons learned to R&D and HVM fabs to ensure closed-loop communication and global issue prevention.
- Define, track, and monitor monthly supplier quality performance metrics and ensure compliance with Micron’s Supplier Requirements Standards (SRS).
- Continuously improving supplier quality business processes to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Global Procurement to support supplier performance evaluations based on quality-related metrics.
- Communication& Presentation
- Provide weekly updates on the status and progress of all supplier-related activities.
- Maintain strong, transparent communication with cross-functional teams such as Global Quality, Global Procurement, the Operational Central Team (OCT), and other relevant departments.
- Respond to issues promptly, adjusting communication cadence based on the urgency and priority of each matter.
- Keep stakeholders and team members regularly informed of project developments, including progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Training and Development
- Take ownership and hold both yourself and others accountable for achieving goals and completing action items from projects, meetings, and discussions.

- Growth Opportunity:
- Collaborate with global SQEs and cross-regional team members to support initiatives related to various categories.
- Serve as a key subject matter expert in the supplier digitalization program, contributing insights and guidance.
- Build deep expertise in material criticality for semiconductor manufacturing by acting as a primary liaison with suppliers.
Education:
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering
- Preferred:
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
Experiences:
- 5–10 years of experience in the semiconductor industry or in a high-volume manufacturing environment is highly advantageous.
- Foundational understanding of semiconductor materials and their applications in wafer manufacturing processes.
- Basic familiarity with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management system standards.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and One Note.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with hands-on experience in:
- Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and calibration
- Statistical Process Control and FMEA
- Problem-solving methodologies
- Quality management systems
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
