Program Overview

The Dotson Bridge and Mentoring Program serves students in the nursing programs at Simmons University. Through mentorship, leadership training, volunteerism, and career counseling, the program has empowered first-generation nursing students for over a decade, investing in their success as learners, healthcare professionals, and leaders.

This opportunity is exclusive only to current Simmons University Nursing students and members Dotson Bridge & Mentoring program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled Simmons University Nursing Student
  • 2027 & 2028 Graduates of Simmons Nursing School are encouraged to apply
  • Current Nursing Student at Simmons University and member of the Dotson Bridge and Mentoring Program or ALANA
  • CNA related experience or currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed one clinical rotation
  • HS Diploma
  • Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak, and write accurately
  • Knowledge of simple arithmetic
  • Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self

Position Overview

Positions are available for **Patient Care Assistant 1 (PCA)**and Unit Coordinator (UC) in all specialty areas of Mass General Brigham for students of the Dotson Nursing Fellowship and the Simmons University Nursing program.

Physicians and interdisciplinary colleagues highly respect the nursing staff at Mass General Brigham for their clinical expertise in providing integrated and compassionate care to adult patients.

Patient Care Assistant I (PCA)

The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA) role supports the healthcare team under RN supervision.

What are we looking for in a PCA?

  • Assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs
  • Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, closely safeguarding patient confidentiality
  • Monitors patient safety, and always communicates in a respectful manner

Unit Coordinator (UC)

The Unit Coordinator play a critical role in patient care by serving as the central source of information by communicating with patients, families, and medical staff.

What are we looking for in a Unit Coordinator?

  • Acts as the central contact person for the nursing unit
  • Performs transcription, clerical, and reception duties
  • Will become an expert user in Epic
  • Works under the direction of the Nurse Manager or designee to coordinate the non-nursing/non-clinical activities essential to the effective functioning of the nursing unit
  • Requires a high degree of accuracy and good interpersonal skills

Work Schedule

  • Per diem opportunity with flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to provide weekly shift coverage for this fellowship
  • Orientation unit training will be full-time, up to 3 weeks after start date
  • Start dates as early as December 1st

Available Shifts

  • Days (7am-7pm, 7am-3pm)
  • Evenings (3-11pm)
  • Nights (7pm-7am, 11pm-7am)

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $19.81 - $28.30/Hourly (Grade 3)
