Job Description: Job: Packaging Coordinator Shift: Days; Monday-Friday Location: Royal Canin (Fremont, NE)

The job of the Packaging Coordinator supports the process areas of the plant – Packaging and Warehouse to ensure associate safety, product quality and process efficiency. Provide functional support after normal business hours as a point of escalation for process failures. Steer the Packaging Triad team for improvement activities in the Packaging Department.

Qualifications:

Education & Professional Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or relevant work experience
  • Packaging/Warehouse experience and knowledge

Knowledge/Experience

  • Previous experience in food / feed process industry
  • English: read, written, spoken
  • Fully functional Microsoft Office
  • Good communication, Cost conscious, Initiative, Etiquette skills, Self-motivated, Team player, Safety & Hygiene & Quality conscious, Technically inclined, Unrestricted range of motion, Color discrimination, Olfactory & texture perception, Depth perception, Tolerance to hot environment

Key Responsibilities:

SAFETY

  • All PPE must be worn in compliance with the OHSA/RC requirements
  • Enforce/Respect the safety rules and the internal policy
  • Stop any equipment / operative works / external company works if safety/environment protection/fire protection rules are broken
  • Support & promote plant safety and health within packaging department

ENVIRONMENT

  • Guarantee and apply ISO (Environment), and all related working procedures
  • Ownership of environmental responsibilities

QUALITY & FOODSAFETY:

  • Guarantee and apply ISO 9001, 22000, Mars Standards, and all related working procedures
  • Support development, implementation and maintenance of the HACCP program in the packaging department
  • Ensure GMP-GHP in the area
  • Help update the Flowchart and Hazard Analysis
  • Member of the Food safety team
  • Analysis of results for verification activities, internal and external audits
  • Support implementation, maintain CCPs and oPRPs in the department
  • Train team to CCPs and oPRPs
  • Manage non-conformities (decide, put on hold, isolate, destruct), analyze for root causes and undertake correctives actions as appropriate
  • Drive food safety improvement activities for the packaging department

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Training: attend any training program as scheduled by company management and train any designed person in the position
  • Prepare / Organize / Participate on plant visits
  • Provide coaching where it is deemed necessary
  • Assist Shift Manager to direct Process team workforce
  • Establish program & documents for training & maintain
  • Establish workforce training programs
  • Identify & report cross training needs & opportunities within the packaging department for optimizing performance
  • Participate to the recruitment of new associates

MANAGEMENT & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify top losses in the packaging department on a quarterly basis and steer the Packaging Triad to establish focused short-term and long-term plans to reduce top losses
  • Partner with Shift Management to identify skill gaps for packaging and warehouse departments, create an effective gap closure plan, and support execution of gap closure plan
  • Provide functional support after normal business hours as a point of escalation for process failures
  • Ongoing activities focused on reduction of mixed kibble by ensuring process adherence and driving improvement activities
  • Communicate with Maintenance, Technical Manager, Operations Manager and operators about equipment deficiencies and corrective actions
  • Lead autonomous work teams in the area to develop autonomous maintenance skills with Packaging Operators
  • Identify opportunities for automating plant processes
  • Champion project coordination with vendors and plant personnel
  • Perform area-related equipment first level maintenance
  • Work with Operations Manager, on implementing Lean Manufacturing Tools

(5S, Hoshin, Poka-Yoke & Kaizen) to drive continuous improvement:

  • Process improvements working in conjunction with Process Engineer
  • Machine improvements working in conjunction with Process Engineer
  • Implementing work order system
  • Qualifying new equipment/processes with Process Engineer and ensure early management of CILs, Centerlines, and 5S prior to startup
  • Developing critical spare parts inventory with the Technical Team
  • Identify & implement ways of reducing energy consumption
  • Continuous improvement
  • Daily management systems (CILs, 5S, Basic Problem Solving)
  • Design of new machinery, organization and working place
  • Improvement of existing machinery / organization / working place
  • Annual operating budgets / CAPEX
  • Technology transfers from overseas
  • Set up operating instructions
  • Supervise external companies
  • Work groups management for continuous improvement
  • Manage designated projects (Investments / improvement projects)
  • Budget / Time table / External companies intervention
  • Any task as delegated by Manager

COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION:

  • Participate in Shift Leader Meeting & Management meeting
  • Actively participate in the morning Operations Meeting, weekly Operations Meeting and periodic Operational Excellence reviews, ensuring compliance with all daily management systems for the area (CILs, 5S, Basic Problem Solving) and communicating improvement activities to major stakeholders
  • Provide any requested documentation to other Departments according to internal rules
  • Plant Process statistics
  • Collect data and provide statistic on plant activities related to packaging department
  • Assure that statistics are ready as requested for reporting activity
  • Perform recording works into Navision according to internal rules
