Warehousing & Depot HSE Business Partner – Japan at Maersk

We are looking for a proactive and people-focused Warehousing & Depot HSE Business Partner to help drive a strong Health, Safety & Environment culture across our operations in Japan. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in operational environments, enjoys partnering with frontline teams and leadership, and wants to make a visible impact on safety, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
You will work closely with Site Managers, Safety Champions, operational leaders, and regional HSE teams to strengthen HSE performance, support compliance, and create safer workplaces across our warehousing and depot operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Drive Safety Culture & Operational Excellence
- Partner with Site Managers and Safety Champions to strengthen HSE ownership at site level.
- Support frontline teams in identifying workplace hazards and implementing effective risk controls.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and visual management tools such as toolbox talks and operational learnings.
- Share best practices and help drive continuous improvement initiatives across sites.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Support compliance with Maersk global HSE standards and Japanese legal requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments across operational facilities.
- Support investigations into incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities including evacuation, fire response, and first-aid readiness.
- Support environmental compliance activities including waste management and reporting.
Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate closely with Operations, HR, Procurement, and external partners to ensure strong HSE controls are embedded into operations.
- Provide practical HSE guidance during operational changes, facility modifications, and new project implementation.
- Support HSE risk assessments during growth, integration, and operational expansion projects.
- Build strong relationships across all levels of the business and influence positive change through data-driven decision making.
Training, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate HSE committee meetings and support implementation of local HSE programs.
- Deliver and coordinate HSE training and awareness initiatives.
- Support reporting and tracking of HSE metrics, risk reduction projects, and operational improvements.
- Facilitate Site HSE Management Reviews and communicate findings to leadership teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in Health, Safety & Environment within logistics, warehousing, transportation, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
- Qualified HSE professional or several years of practical HSE experience.
- University degree in Health & Safety, Risk Management, Security, Environmental Management, or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and create followership across multiple teams and functions.
- Analytical and solutions-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Comfortable working in dynamic operational environments with regular site visits.
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English communication skills preferred.
