Do Work That Matters

Leidos Australia delivers IT and airborne solutions that protect and advance the Australian way of life. Our 2000 local experts, backed by our global experience and network of partners, are working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in government, intelligence, defence, aviation, border protection and health markets.

Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Director, Business Development to lead the identification, shaping and conversion of complex, high-value opportunities across one or more Lines of Business.

Reporting into the Vice President, Business Development, this role operates at the intersection of strategy and execution – translating enterprise priorities into actionable pursuits. You will play a critical role in driving portfolio performance, influencing investment decisions, and ensuring disciplined delivery across the pipeline.

You will engage at a senior level with government customers, industry partners and internal stakeholders, helping shape opportunities early and position the organisation for success in competitive environments.

Success in this role requires the ability to operate effectively in complex, fast-moving and often ambiguous environments, bringing clarity, direction and momentum to pursuits.

You will play a key leadership role in developing Business Development capability, setting clear expectations, coaching teams, and contributing to a high-performance culture.

What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact

You are a commercially astute business development leader with a proven track record of shaping and winning complex opportunities, ideally within government, defence or similarly structured environments.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex pursuits, including multi-partner and multi-domain opportunities

  • A deep appreciation of government procurement and acquisition processes, and the ability to navigate these effectively

  • Sound commercial acumen, with experience across pricing, contracts and risk in pursuit environments

  • The ability to influence and align senior stakeholders – both internally and externally – to drive successful outcomes

  • Experience developing and executing capture strategies, including win themes, competitive positioning and teaming approaches

  • Strong leadership capability, with experience building, coaching and uplifting teams

You are comfortable operating in environments where there is not always a clear path forward. You bring structure to ambiguity, make informed decisions, and progress opportunities with pace, balancing rigour with the need to move forward. You are pragmatic, outcome-focused, and able to navigate competing priorities while maintaining a clear focus on results.

Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application. We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and be willing to obtain and hold a security clearance.
