For over a century, L'Oréal has been convinced that beauty needs Science. Within Research & Innovation (R&I), the L'Oréal For The Future & Green Sciences direction is dedicated to transforming this vision into a sustainable reality.
We are looking for an LCA Methodologies Expert Engineer for the ingredients and bio-resources scope. Your role is to ensure the methodological consistency of our portfolio's environmental footprint by managing data and contributing to the evolution of our assessment frameworks to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges (Climate, Water, Biodiversity).
A Day in the Life
Reporting to the head of the "Environmental Impact Assessment" team, you will operate at the heart of a multidisciplinary ecosystem. Your daily life will involve embodying technical expertise and data mastery to serve the Group's sustainability strategy. You will act as a critical interface between the internal needs of R&I and external expert partners, ensuring that LCA science translates into concrete business orientations.
Your Missions
1.
Methodology guardian& Value Internalization:
- Act as one of the LCA methodological referent within the department for the ingredients and bio-resources (feedstocks) of the L'Oréal portfolio.
- Guarantee the reliability of impact data used for extra-financial reporting (notably carbon), the eco-design process of our formulas, and internal studies on the Group's sustainability challenges.
- Internalize added value: during technical feedback from service providers, analyze and synthesize key concepts to enrich internal expertise and build our collective knowledge base.
2.
Data Governance & Digital Ecosystem:
- Guarantee the quality, traceability, and consistency of environmental data generated by the team (used for carbon, water, and biodiversity needs).
- Optimize data collection and management processes by bridging the gap between business needs and IT teams (eco-design tools, databases).
- Continue developing the interface between feedstocks, ingredients, and raw materials for a multi-level understanding of impact.
3.
Management & Critical Interface:
- Agilely manage a large portfolio of impact studies and contribute to prioritizing needs and intersecting the Group's major environmental challenges with operational reality (volumes, material criticality).
- Translate business needs into technical data for consultants, perform critical analysis of their results, and transform them into clear, actionable strategic recommendations.
- Support internal partners in interpreting results and evaluate the environmental relevance of new ingredients compared to current portfolio benchmarks.
4.
Methodological Development & Biodiversity:
- Transform scientific and regulatory monitoring into levers for action: contribute to reflections on the evolution of our methods to anticipate future framework changes.
- Actively contribute to the development of the product biodiversity footprint methodology, analyzing the adaptability of our current LCA data to these new challenges.
- Participate in expert working groups to represent L'Oréal's technical vision.
Your Profile: Agility, Science, and Vision You are passionate about environmental science and enjoy navigating complexity without losing sight of the final objective.
- Education: Engineering degree or Master’s (Bac+5) in Environment, Chemistry, or Agronomy.
- Technical Expertise: Mastery of LCA concepts and carbon accounting, as well as associated software and databases (Sima Pro / ecoinvent).
- Scientific Foundation: Knowledge of organic chemistry is essential to understand the nature of our ingredients and challenge data.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably 5 years, in an industrial environment or consulting firm.
- Soft Skills – Agility & Strategic Perspective: Strong intellectual agility allowing you to juggle multiple subjects and connect technical points to global strategic issues (climate, biodiversity, resources). You know how to simplify complexity for non-expert stakeholders.
- Data Mindset: A marked appetite for database management and IT tools. Operational rigor is second nature to you.
- Collaboration: You enjoy working in networks and know how to navigate a complex organization where success depends on collective intelligence rather than solitary execution.
- Languages: Native-level or bilingual French; Fluency in English is mandatory (international and scientific context).
What’s In It For You
- The opportunity to shape the environmental assessment standards of the world leader in beauty.
- A strategic role at the crossroads of science, data, and ecological transition.
- An environment that values expertise put to the service of collective intelligence.
