This is an opportunity to join our EMEA Government Relations team as an Executive Director, reporting to the Head of EU Government Relations. The team’s key objectives are identifying key legislative and policy initiatives in the EU and UK for our businesses and executes advocacy strategies and representing the firm before government officials, regulators, and trade associations. The team also keeps management apprised of developments in the political and legislative environment and advises on strategy for dealing with broader external issues, working closely with the wider Global Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs, and other colleagues across Brussels, London, Washington DC, New York, and Hong Kong.
As an Executive Director within the EMEA Government Relations team, you will lead engagement on EU policy issues relevant to JPMorgan Chase’s business interests, with a particular focus on retail banking, payments, and technology. You will be responsible for developing and executing advocacy strategies, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and providing strategic advice to senior leadership.
Job responsibilities
- Monitor EU political, policy, and regulatory developments impacting the firm, with a focus on consumer and digital banking, payments, and technology.
- Advise senior leadership and lines of business by providing timely, concise analysis of emerging political, policy, and regulatory issues, and help shape the firm’s position.
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies on policy, legislative, and regulatory proposals in line with the firm’s interests.
- Build and maintain a strong network of internal and external stakeholders, including EU institutions, Member State representatives, trade associations, and industry peers, to gather intelligence and support advocacy efforts.
- Represent the firm at meetings with EU government officials, regulators, and other external stakeholders.
- Contribute to trade association activities and collaborate with counterparts at other firms to develop consensus positions and leverage collective resources for advocacy.
- Prepare presentations and internal briefings for senior management, lines of business, and management committees.
- Lead and mentor other team members within the Brussels office, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in EU financial services policy, with significant expertise in retail banking, payments, or digital finance.
- Proven track record of senior-level engagement with EU institutions, Member State governments, and regulatory bodies.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex policy issues clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of an organization, including senior executives.
- High integrity and commitment to ethical standards.
- Deep familiarity with EU political processes, legislative procedures, and regulatory frameworks; knowledge of UK and other international institutions is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter with strong leadership skills, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred (e.g., in law, public policy, international relations, or related field).
- Fluency in English required; additional European languages are an asset.
