A Zuora Technical Architect is the senior technical authority responsible for designing, governing, and delivering scalable subscription billing and monetization architectures on the Zuora platform. This role bridges business strategy and technical execution, ensuring that complex Quote‑to‑Cash (Q2C), Order‑to‑Revenue (O2R), Billing, Payments, and Revenue Recognition solutions are architected according to Zuora best practices and enterprise standards. The architect leads technical design, mentors developers, owns integration patterns, and partners with executive stakeholders to ensure long‑term platform scalability and success.
- Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7–12+ years of experience in enterprise software development, system integration, or solution architecture.
- 5+ years of deep, hands‑on experience with Zuora Billing; strong exposure to Payments, Revenue.
- Proven experience architecting large‑scale subscription and usage‑based monetization models
Technical Skills:
- Expert knowledge of Zuora APIs, ZOQL, workflows, custom objects, and integration frameworks.
- Strong understanding of Quote‑to‑Cash, Order‑to‑Revenue, billing, invoicing, and revenue recognition flows.
- Experience designing integrations with CRM, ERP, tax engines, payment gateways, and data platforms.
Leadership & Communication:
- Ability to communicate complex technical designs to senior business and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, conducting design governance, and managing escalations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Zuora Certifications (Billing Consultant, Revenue Consultant, CPQ, or Administrator).
- Prior experience in global, multi‑entity, multi‑currency Zuora deployments.
- Background in SaaS, subscription, or consumption‑based business models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect end‑to‑end Zuora Billing solution aligned to complex business models and growth strategies.
- Translate business requirements into logical and physical architectures, including data models, object relationships, process flows, and integration patterns.
- Design scalable solutions that extend beyond out‑of‑the‑box Zuora capabilities while preserving upgradeability and platform integrity.
- Ensure solutions adhere to Zuora architectural best practices, security standards, and performance guidelines.
Technical Leadership & Governance:
- Act as technical lead and escalation point for complex Zuora implementations and production issues.
- Lead and govern technical design reviews, integration workshops, and solution walkthroughs with customer and internal teams.
- Review and approve designs, code, workflows, and integrations produced by Zuora developers and implementation partners.
- Mentor and coach Zuora Developers and Technical Consultants, driving consistent engineering standards and best practices.
Integrations & Enterprise Landscape:

Architect and oversee integrations between Zuora and enterprise systems such as Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, data platforms, and payment gateways.

Define and standardize API strategies, middleware patterns, error handling, and reconciliation approaches.

Ensure data integrity, auditability, and consistency across billing, payments, revenue, and downstream financial systems.

Delivery, Risk & Stakeholder Management

Own technical delivery across multiple concurrent projects, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and architectural trade‑offs.

Partner with Solution Architects, Program Managers, Finance, Rev Ops, and Engineering leaders to align solutions with business outcomes.

Support pre‑sales and discovery activities, including solution assessments, effort estimation, and technical proposal inputs.

Author and maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, standards, and design artifacts for long‑term maintainability.
