Hearst Connecticut Media Group (HCMG) journalists serve communities across Connecticut, producing trusted local journalism that reaches readers wherever they are — on CTInsider.com, through our app, newsletters, social platforms, video channels and our portfolio of 10 daily newspapers and a group of weeklies.

We’re looking for a collaborative, organized and thoughtful Social Video Intern for an 8 to 10 week paid full-time internship embedded in our newsroom. This person will edit videos for reporters, photographers, and the community for social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. They may also go out and shoot video of their own to partner with stories or to stand alone on those platforms.

Duties and responsibilities could include:

Working collaboratively with editors, reporters, photographers and audience team members to edit one-to-three minute videos in Canva on deadline

Optimize video for distribution across platforms, including social, web and search, with strong attention to headlines, thumbnails, metadata and SEO best practices

Taking on a small special project in collaboration with other journalists

Qualifications:

Strong video editing, writing and verbal communication skills

Some college experience, preferably in an English, communications or related field

Organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks

To apply:

Please submit a cover letter, resume and relevant video clips for consideration.

Hearst Connecticut Media Group is committed to building a newsroom that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds in media—including women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community and veterans—to apply.

This internship can be based in either Norwalk or Meriden and is not eligible for remote candidates.
