About the job

Google User Experience (UX) is made up of multi-disciplinary teams of UX Designers, Researchers, Writers, Content Strategists, Program Managers, and Engineers: we care deeply about the people who use our products. The UX team plays an integral part in gathering insights about the attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of people who use our products to inspire and inform design. We collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create industry-leading products that deliver value for the people who use them, and for Google’s businesses.

As an Interaction Designer, you’ll rely on user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences—from concept to execution. Like all of our UX jobs, you’ll collaborate with your design partners to leverage and evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative, inspired products that people love to use.

In this role you will own and elevate the mobile Shopping ads experience within Google Search results, specifically focusing on high-visibility, top-of-page formats. You will define the long-term design goals for medium to complex product areas.

Google Ads is helping power the open internet with the best technology that connects and creates value for people, publishers, advertisers, and Google. We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $151,000-$222,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own the design goal for medium product areas, establishing and evolving the patterns, frameworks, and standards that enable platforms to scale effectively.

  • Drive design strategy and alignment across multiple teams and organizations, influencing product roadmaps and contributing significant new standards to Google Material and other design systems.

  • Act as a core partner to the project stakeholders, Product Management, Engineering, and Research, translating user needs and business goals into a cohesive product goal.

  • Mentor and guide other designers, elevating the overall quality of work and fostering a culture of design excellence within the team.

  • Articulate a compelling product goal through a range of artifacts, including storyboards, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes, to effectively gain buy-in and communicate user flows and interaction models.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 6 years of interaction design experience in product design or UX design.

  • Experience working on consumer products.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of experience working in a cross-functional organization.

  • 2 years of experience leading design projects.

  • Excellent visual design skills and fluency in visual and interaction design tools.

  • Excellent investigative, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
