The Google Payments team has a goal of making payments fast, easy, and safe around the world. Our Google Payments team builds the mobile apps that serve millions of users around the world. Google Pay is a safe, simple, and helpful way to manage your money, giving you a clearer picture of your spending and savings.

As an Engineering Manager, you will manage a medium-sized team to build user-facing products that provide the best user experience on Google Pay. You will work with a team of Product Managers and User Experience Designers to define, ideate, prototype, develop, test, and iterate the software products while ensuring software quality through rigid software engineering principles.

Whether adding to the core Android experience, forging new markets for digital content, creating immersive and portable versions of our products or managing relationships with a global community of developers, the Mobile team is giving you Google on the go.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a Software Engineering team, and collaborate closely with product managers and user experience designers/researchers to define/scope product features.

  • Design and develop cross-platform (Android/iOS) mobile applications from front-end to back-end.

  • Set the technical direction and plan deliverables and milestones.

  • Make direct technical contributions as well as provide guidance to team members.

  • Work with teams across the organization to remove blocker and identify opportunities, and interact with leads and stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).

  • 4 years of experience in engineering team management/managing engineering teams.

  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.

  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects.

Preferred qualifications

  • 6 years of experience managing a team of software engineers to build user-facing software products with deep collaboration with product managers and user experience designers.

  • Experience in large-scale software development.

  • Experience working across India or emerging markets, with insights into the issues facing the mobile app ecosystem.

  • Experience with generative AI, Large Language Model (LLMs)/agents

  • Experience in mobile software development.
