About the job
Be part of a team that pushes boundaries, developing custom silicon solutions that power the future of Google's direct-to-consumer products. You'll contribute to the innovation behind products loved by millions worldwide. Your expertise will shape the next generation of hardware experiences, delivering unparalleled performance, efficiency, and integration.
As a Product Quality Engineer, you will lead end-to-end product quality implementation between internal teams and contract manufacturers/suppliers. You will bridge the quality landscape from basic visual inspection to advanced design for quality and manufacturability by leveraging high-fidelity data to ensure customer satisfaction.
In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams—including product management, design, system engineering, operations, and supply chain to build a proactive and preventive mindset, cultivate a continuous improvement culture, and aim for predictable ramps and spill-free product launches.
Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology.
Responsibilities
-
Lead Product Quality Plans (PQP) that shift the focus from basic visual inspections to data-driven "design for quality and manufacturability," ensuring proper quality test coverage and detection.
-
Partner with engineering during New Product Introduction (NPI) to validate design intent (Tolerance Analysis), ensure scalability, and optimize specifications using high-fidelity data.
-
Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to verify that manufacturing processes are stable and highly capable (CpK > 1.33).
-
Enhance factory detection capabilities by implementing high-fidelity measurement tools and capabilities. Drive rapid root-cause analysis using advanced techniques like X-Ray and CT scanning.
-
Protect the final assembly line by strictly managing Incoming Quality Control (IQC). Lead cosmetic quality by setting clear specifications, managing limit samples, and transitioning to objective, automated measurements.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
-
3 years of experience with electronics manufacturing, specifically with watch and buds or other wearable/consumer electronics.
-
5 years of experience with product quality development and implementation.
Preferred qualifications
-
Master's degree in Applied Chemistry Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Experience in preventing quality loss in the early stages of manufacturing, and implementing early field failure detection strategies such as rolling reliability testing.
-
Experience in leading cross-functional problem-solving teams using practical approaches like Quality Metrics, Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Six Sigma methodologies.
-
Understanding of process capability demonstration (CpK > 1.33), design margin analysis, and the implementation of high-fidelity measurement systems.
-
Ability to communicate in Mandarin fluently, to liaise with relevant stakeholders.
