Software Engineer III, Watch Essential Experiences

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The Watch Essential Experiences team provides a set of essential user facing experiences for the watch. We're dedicated to crafting intuitive, beautiful, highly functional and intelligent experiences that help users stay connected, healthy, and productive throughout their day. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible on wearable devices, focusing on performance, power, quality, and a seamless user experience. Our work has a direct impact on millions of users, and we strive to create products that people love to use. The team's deliverables include a mix of Wear OS platform features and Pixel Watch product features.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and test high-quality code for Wear OS watch faces and applications using Kotlin/Java and other relevant technologies.

Collaborate with your software team, product managers, and design teams to implement requirements.

Debug, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues, including performance and power optimization.

Contribute to and review technical design documents.

Manage own priorities within a given project.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
-
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Kotlin or Java), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
Preferred qualifications
-
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
-
Experience with Android or Wear OS development.
-
Experience with Jetpack Compose.
-
Experience with UI/UX design and development.
-
Experience with performance optimization and power management on mobile/wearable devices.
-
Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
