The Role:

The Engineering Business Manager (EBM) is a strategic leader responsible for driving operational excellence, financial discipline, and business alignment for the Chassis, Thermal, Powertrain integration (CTPI) engineering organization. The EBM provides visibility to key performance metrics, leads efficiency and process improvements, and partners closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams (Finance, HR, GEOS, EBMs/BPs, etc.) to plan, monitor, and execute business operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Serve as the business operations leader, consolidating operational plans, budgets, scorecards, and performance updates.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and leadership team, highlighting risks, opportunities, and performance trends.
  • Coordinate business planning, reporting, audits, and compliance activities, ensuring alignment with GM policies and global processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement across business processes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate KPIs, guiding organizational decision-making.
  • Manage large operating budgets, ensure fiscal discipline, and oversee forecasting.
  • Facilitate leadership communication, alignment, and prioritization through weekly staff routines.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities) Business Planning & Performance Management

  • Lead development of annual and multi-year operating plans (headcount, indirect spend, ED&D, bundled services) with Finance and Engineering leaders.
  • Maintain the engineering dashboard and facilitate regular KPI and performance reviews.
  • Drive Business Plan Deployment (BPD) with clear objectives, actions, owners, and timelines.
  • Provide financial/operational reporting, variance analysis, and decision recommendations.
  • Own workforce planning, capacity management, and resource allocation.

Budget, Forecasting & Resource Management

  • Coordinate budget creation, consolidation, and year-round monitoring, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Support staffing and resource planning, including staffing models, position management, and alignment to funded priorities.
  • Partner with Finance and Program Teams on ED&D and bundled services to maintain alignment with strategy and compliance.
  • Support portfolio and workload tracking to enable effective prioritization across programs.

Governance, Audits & Compliance

  • Serve as the point of contact for audits and compliance activities, ensuring data integrity and process adherence.
  • Coordinate organizational risk identification and mitigation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GM policies related to purchasing, contracting, records management, and information lifecycle management (ILM).

Business Operations & Process Excellence

  • Lead development and continuous improvement of business processes, reporting routines, and governance mechanisms.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies to improve operational effectiveness and team collaboration.
  • Maintain standardized playbooks, procedures, templates, and guidance.
  • Oversee tools and systems used for planning, metrics, training, and communication.
  • Track training compliance and coordinate required training for the organization.

Communications, Engagement & Meetings

  • Plan and facilitate staff meetings, workshops, and organization-wide events, including content development and follow-up.
  • Develop and distribute leadership communications, presentations, and updates.
  • Coordinate engagement, culture-building, and recognition activities in partnership with HR.
  • Serve as a liaison between local engineering teams and global counterparts, sharing best practices.

Mentoring & Team Development

  • Mentor leaders and staff to build business acumen and operational capability.
  • Maintain strong relationships across the organization to understand needs, support culture, and provide informed guidance while balancing confidentiality.

Stakeholder & Interface Management

  • Build strong partnerships with Finance, HR, Procurement, Legal, IT, Quality, Safety, and other functions to enable integrated support.
  • Represent Engineering in cross-functional forums and ensure follow-through on actions.
  • Support leaders with ad hoc analysis, special projects, and strategic initiatives.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in engineering business operations, program management, finance, or related roles supporting technical organizations.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret financials, metrics, and operational data, and translate insights into clear recommendations.
  • Proven project/program management skills, including planning, prioritization, risk management, and tracking deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
  • High level of analytical ability and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create concise, executive-ready materials and communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, influence without direct authority, and work effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrated drive for results, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering/Technical Management, or related field.
  • High level of analytical ability and proficiency with key GM systems and reporting tools.
  • Experience working in or supporting engineering, R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, or Technical Program Teams.
  • Prior experience in continuous improvement, Lean, GMS, Six Sigma, or DFSS/Red X environments.
  • Experience with GM Business Plan Deployment (BPD), RDM/workload management, or similar portfolio and resource planning tools.
  • Experience coordinating audits and compliance reviews.
  • Familiarity with GM-specific processes: Problem Resolution and Tracking System (PRTS), DFMEA/DFA, program launch procedures.
  • Experience in a global or regional role working across multiple sites, time zones, and cultures.
