What does a successful Senior DevOps Engineer do?

We are looking for a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer with deep expertise in Kubernetes, GitHub, and AWS to design and lead the implementation of a hybrid-cloud architecture for an On Prem Payment Gateway and its surrounding services. The goal is not a full migration, but to enable controlled traffic routing (partial or full) to AWS during peak loads or operational events—improving resilience, elasticity, and availability.

The current platform runs on On Prem Kubernetes, uses Oracle as its database, and uses Git Ops/CI/CD tooling including Argo CD and Helm. This role partners with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to architect, document, and deliver secure, scalable, cloud-ready solutions across hybrid environments.

What you will do

• Infrastructure Management:

Provision, configure, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS(primary) and exposure to Azure/IBM Cloud as needed.

• Hybrid Cloud Architecture & Routing:

Design and implement routing and failover/burst patterns between On Prem and AWS (traffic distribution, DR, scaling).

• CI/CD Pipeline Development:

Build, maintain, and secure CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and enterprise tooling (e.g.,Jenkins, Spinnaker, GitLab CI) along with Git Ops patterns.

• Automation & IaC:

Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform(preferred) and/or CloudFormation, plus automation using Ansible and Helm charts to reduce operational risk.

• Dev Sec Ops / Security & Compliance:

Enforce security controls (secrets management, IAM, encryption, vulnerability management) and ensure compliance with PCI-DSS and other financial regulations in partnership with Infosec teams.

• Container Orchestration:

Administer and evolve Kubernetes platforms (On Prem and EKS), focusing on HA, upgrades, scaling, networking, and operational standards (CKA preferred).

• Monitoring & Observability:

Implement and standardize monitoring/logging/alerting using tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, CloudWatch, enabling real-time visibility and actionable insights.

• Incident Response:

Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, and lead root cause analysis (RCA) with corrective/preventive actions.

• Database Integration:

Support Oracle workload needs and integration patterns in AWS (connectivity, HA/DR considerations, performance, operational readiness).

• Productivity with GenAI:

Apply GenAI tools (including GitHub Copilot and others) to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, and operational analysis.

What you need to have

• Experience:

7+ years in DevOps / platform engineering (can be calibrated), ideally with experience in financial services or other regulated environments.

• Cloud Proficiency:

Strong hands-on experience with AWS; exposure to Azure or GCP is a plus.

• Kubernetes & Containerization:

Proven expertise in Kubernetes(EKS preferred) and Docker;CKA preferred.

• Infrastructure as Code:

Proficiency with Terraform and working knowledge of Ansible and Helm.

• CI/CD & Git:

Strong experience with GitHub and CI/CD tools such as Argo CD, plus familiarity with Jenkins/Spinnaker/GitLab CI.

• Scripting/Programming:

Strong proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go.

• Security Focus:

Working knowledge of PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and secure engineering practices (secrets management, IAM, audit logging).

• Observability/Logging Tools:

Familiarity with logging/monitoring platforms such as Splunk, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog.

• Strong collaboration, documentation, and problem-solving skills across cross-functional teams.

What would be great to have

• Certifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) and/or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
• Experience with hybrid cloud / on-premise environments and enterprise connectivity patterns.
• Understanding of financial transaction systems, event-driven architecture, and/or Kafka.
• Experience designing for auditability, privacy, and secure operations in payment ecosystems.
