What’s the role?

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Payments Compliance squad. You will be joining a multi disciplined group of engineers, product managers, designers and analysts. As a Software Engineer on our squad, you will help us build scalable, fault tolerant, maintainable systems that service millions of small businesses on our platform.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Dublin office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. The Payments Compliance squad's mission is to empower millions of sellers and buyers to be compliant with local laws and regulations. Doing this in a global marketplace and at Etsy’s scale is no easy feat. As Etsy expands to more and more countries, our team is critical to the success of that growth.

Here are a few questions our team helps answer:

• Are the sellers who they say they are? What are the details of their business? Are they on any sanctions lists?

• Can we safely pay them out to their bank accounts?

• What local laws apply to this seller given their sales this year (e.g INFORM, DSA, DAC7 etc) ?

• What happens when a seller moves from one country to another? How does that affect their business?

What does the day-to-day look like?

• You will work collaboratively with multiple engineers at a range of levels to support you in gaining critical onboarding about how Etsy designs and writes software.

• Contribute at all levels of our web application stack, ranging from front-end web interfaces (HTML, CSS, TypeScript, React) to back-end technologies (PHP and MySQL) too. It's okay if you don't have experience with all of these!

• Continuously learn from your teammates and share your own insights with them.

• Push code to production early and often using our continuous deployment systems.

• Empathy, ownership, communication, and technical skill are valued equally.

• Participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.
