About the Business Function:
From molecule to market, Global Manufacturing plays an important role in every step along a product’s lifecycle. Most of our customers never see the scientific and technical resources behind our medicines. But customers experience, every day, the performance of our high-quality products and global supply network.
Global Manufacturing comprises a core group of functions that contribute to the production and supply of high-quality products: Engineering; Manufacturing Information & Control Systems (MI&CS); Technology Services/Manufacturing Science; Global Health, Safety and Environment; and Global Supply Chain.
Job Title: Director – Manufacturing & Quality – Labs and TSMS - Tech
This role provides strategic and operational leadership for digital and technology solutions supporting Quality Laboratories and Technical Services & Manufacturing Science (TSMS) functions. This role ensures alignment between business objectives and technology strategy, driving innovation, reliability, and compliance in manufacturing operations across internal sites and contract manufacturing partners.

What you’ll be doing:

Technology Strategy & Leadership
-
Work with global stakeholders to define and execute the digital technology roadmap for Quality Labs and TSMS in alignment with global manufacturing and quality strategy.

Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for process digitalization, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
-
Lead a cross-functional team of IT professionals, business analysts, and solution architects delivering integrated, compliant solutions.

Quality Labs Systems Ownership
-
Oversee lifecycle management of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS), and related analytics platforms.

Ensure delivery of nextgen Labs – Lab Vantage to all sites including Master Data Management, Configuration, Integrations and Data.

Ensure data integrity, system validation, and compliance with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and global regulatory standards.

Drive adoption of next-generation lab digitalization tools (e.g., ELN, AI/ML for predictive quality).

TSMS Enablement
-
Partner with TSMS to enable process monitoring, process modelling CPV (Continued Process Verification), and digital twins.

Provide digital tools to support process robustness, tech transfers, and investigation management.

Champion advanced analytics and AI/ML models to predict and prevent manufacturing deviations.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
-
Maintain IT governance and change control processes across GxP systems.

Ensure business continuity, cybersecurity compliance, and supplier oversight for all technology platforms.

Lead risk assessments and audits to ensure system readiness and regulatory compliance.

People & Stakeholder Leadership
-
Build and mentor a high-performing global team.

Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and IT Infrastructure teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Influence senior stakeholders and drive change adoption across diverse business and regional teams.
How you will succeed
- Strategic Digital Leadership: Success will come from defining and executing a cohesive digital roadmap for Quality Labs and TSMS—aligning global technology initiatives with business strategy, while driving automation, data integration, and digital innovation across lab and manufacturing processes.
- Operational Excellence & Compliance: Delivering robust, compliant, and future-ready laboratory and analytics systems (Lab Vantage, Empower, Smart Lab, etc.)—with strong data integrity, system validation, and governance—will be key to ensuring regulatory confidence and seamless global operations.
- People & Partnership Impact: Building and empowering a high-performing global team, while influencing senior stakeholders to adopt digital tools and AI-driven solutions, will ensure sustainable transformation and measurable business value across Quality and TSMS functions.
What you should bring:
- Deep Domain & Digital Expertise: Strong understanding of Quality Control and Technical Services processes in pharma manufacturing, combined with hands-on experience in implementing and managing systems like Lab Vantage, Empower, and advanced analytics or AI tools.
- Strategic Vision with Execution Rigor: The ability to translate global digital strategy into actionable roadmaps—balancing innovation with compliance, ensuring timely delivery of validated, integrated, and value-driven solutions.
- Leadership & Influence Across Boundaries: A proven track record of leading diverse, cross-functional global teams and effectively partnering with business and IT stakeholders to drive adoption, change, and measurable business transformation
Basic Qualifications and Experience Requirement:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field.
- 17+ years of progressive experience in IT or Digital roles, with at least 5 years in leadership supporting Manufacturing or Quality.
- Strong domain understanding of pharmaceutical / biotech manufacturing processes, lab operations, and regulatory landscape.
- Proven experience leading technology for GxP systems (LIMS, MES, QMS, Data Analytics, etc.).
- Demonstrated success in managing complex global programs and vendor ecosystems.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Labs/ Labvantage experience is a nice to have
- Experience with technologies supporting Shop floor execution is a nice to have
