ABOUT THE ROLE

Role Description:

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leadership and mentoring in technology-driven environment, with a strong focus on Software Development and data engineering, specifically within the Salesforce.com, Conga CPQ/CLM, Tableau, Databricks, Anaplan, or Model N platforms. The candidate should be a self-starter and have a strong passion for fostering innovation and excellence in the biotechnology industry. Additionally, collaboration with cross-functional and global teams is required to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong business analysis skills and technical background in end-to-end software development lifecycle. Proficiency in managing complex integration projects and ensuring compliance with privacy standards is essential.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Organizational Leadership: Work closely with senior leaders within the function and across the Amgen India site to align engineering goals with broader organizational objectives and demonstrate leadership by contributing to strategic discussions
  • Talent Growth & People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of engineers, fostering an environment that encourages learning, collaboration, and innovation. Focus on nurturing future leaders and providing growth opportunities through coaching, training, and mentorship.
  • Work with Product Owners, Service Owners and developers/testers to ensure that delivery matches commitments, acting as a critical issue point and facilitating communication when service commitments are not met
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of software products and platform capabilities. Ensure releases ship on time, stay within scope and budget, deliver measurable value, and meet business objectives.
  • Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, high-performance software systems and services, including APIs, application backends, web and mobile frontends, and integrations. Champion sound engineering practices such as modular design, secure coding, automated testing, CI/CD, and operational observability.
  • Oversee the software development lifecycle using Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree with 10 - 15 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with 12 - 17 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers.

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills

  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experienced with software engineering best practices, including but not limited to version control (Git, Subversion, etc.), CI/CD (Jenkins, Maven etc.), automated unit testing, and Dev Ops.
  • Experience working with agile development methodologies such as Scaled Agile.
  • Success in mentoring and developing strong product analysts, business analysts, and developers
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technology initiatives and teams with a track record of successful innovation.
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage stakeholder relationships and build new partnerships.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Working knowledge of integrations and tools such as Mule Soft and Databricks
  • Strong analytic/critical-thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Established business partnerships and IS governance practices involving senior business stakeholders
  • Broad working knowledge of key IS domains and layers
  • Proficiency with AI tools such as Chat

GPT and Copilot:

Preferred Education and Professional Certifications

  • SAFe for Teams (or other SAFe certification)
  • Data Engineering / Data Analytics certification — Databricks preferred; major cloud equivalents also valued
  • Salesforce certifications such as Administrator, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or Architect

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong transformation and change management experience.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully.
  • Team-oriented with a focus on achieving team goals.
  • Ability to work effectively with global, virtual teams.
