Job Summary
NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a Storage & Backup Engineer for NBCU Operations and Technology (O&T). O&T supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.
This role will be responsible for maintaining and supporting 24x7x365 high availability storage environments for NBCUniversal. You will provide support for operational-based changes for all supported applications.
Job Description
- Support all storage technologies and process lifecycles in the NBCU enterprise, specifically file, block, tape, object storage and backup systems - both on-prem and cloud
- Day-to-day tickets & provide 24x7x365 on-call support
- Daily storage administration tasks such as provisioning, masking, zoning, share & export creation
- Monitor hardware and software alerts and provide timely resolution for any issues
- Participate in investigations of storage-related application performance issues to identify systemic issues and root causes
- Follow up with storage vendors to resolve system issues
- Upgrade and patch systems as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution
- Scripting experience to automate routine tasks is a plus
- Develop partnerships across engineering teams, including compute, network, database, automation, cyber, and application support for cross-facility support and engagement
- Provide updates to management and clients on support issues and project tasks
- Adhere to and promote engineering standards and guidelines and keep documentation up to date
Qualifications/Requirements:
- B.E or B.Tech. degree in Information Technology or related technical discipline
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting mid-to-large, high availability storage environments preferably for Net App, EMC, Hitachi, Cloudian, LTO Tape Library, Cisco/Brocade Fibre Channel and cloud storage systems
- Minimum 3 years of experience in planning, documenting, validating, and testing technical solutions in a global enterprise setting
- Minimum 3 years managing vendor relationships
- Experience in storage performance, data replication, load-balancing, storage virtualization methods, SAN zoning/provisioning, backups
- Experience in storage technologies such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, CiFS, NFS, Flash, RAID, LTO, object, etc.
- Experience in Window/Linux Server configuration and administration
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure services, data center wiring/fiber/connectivity requirements & toolsets
- Understanding of business continuity, disaster recovery and backup technologies, recovery scenarios, high-availability designs and solutions
- Must be willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays with little or no notice
Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness to work overtime and on weekends with short notice as required
- Available 24x7x365
- Ability to manage environments in multiple locations across the United States and Internationally

- Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Git, etc.
- Familiar with monitoring/logging technologies – Nagios/OP5, Datadog, etc.
- Hands-on experience on Net App Data infrastructure Insights and OCUM
- Familiar with cloud technologies and toolsets (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Familiar with ITSM & Agile methodologies and tools such as Service Now and JIRA
- Media Industry experience is preferred
