We are the NEXT PI Common Team at CISCO. Our team is the only team which works across all the CISCO BUs such as XE/XR/NX i.e. enterprise, SP and DC …. We develop platform independent software solutions and specialise at OSPF, ISIS, BGP, Multicast and OAM protocols.
Cisco’s Distributed Systems Engineering (DSE) team builds the foundational software that powers the world’s largest, most fast paced data centers. The PI-Common team
is at the core if this, as we build the routing protocols and infra, that are the heart of data centers. As AI/ML workloads explode and cloud-scale infrastructure becomes the norm, the industry is transforming—and Cisco is owning the way.
Our team, validates and tests the functional and solutions for the PI software. The protocols comprise of IP, IPv6, IGP, Multicast, BFD, etc. We participate in the entire work flow of the release starting form the requirement till the GA for the release. We develop and use AI agents for the day to day work including the test planning till the automation.
The team is 90+ engineers with industry veterans and junior engineers with the great mix.
We’re looking for hard-working engineers who thrive on solving sophisticated problems, building distributed systems, and working hands-on with real-world infrastructure.
The work includes:

All the cisco PINs (XE/XR/NX), PI functional testing including protocols like OSPF/ISIS/PIM/MSDP/EIGRP/FHRP/BFD

Work on the technologies like EVPN, SDWAN, SDA, SR, SRv6.

Working on the customer profiles and solving customer problems.

Work closely on the releases starting from PRD review till the GA .

Strong automation and manual testing.

The team comprises of 90+ engineers with great mix of industry veterans and young talents.

Working on cutting edge technologies and on current IETF trends.
Your Impact
ou’ll be part of a high-performing team driving innovation across Cisco’s portfolio, which includes Nexus 9000 series switches, NX-OS, and technologies like Routing Protocols, Routing Infra, Virtualization, VXLAN EVPN, segment routing, Multicast and telemetry. You’ll engage closely with senior engineers, architects, and open-source communities, influencing product direction and technical strategy.

Understand the whole customer use cases and solutions.

Strong automation using python with AI intensive skills.

Task involves review of the design documents, preparing the test plan, automation and manual testing.

Working on the customer problems.
Minimum Qualifications (Provide up to five (5) bullet points - these should be clearly defined,

B.E./ BTech in Computer Science, ECE, or a related field

4–8 years of software development testing experience

Strong proficiency in Python Scripting

In-depth understanding of routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, MCAST, EIGRP, Segment Routing

Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, multicast, switching, forwarding)

Experience working with or developing for NX-OS or similar network operating systems

Familiarity with YANG, SNMP, or model-driven telemetry
-
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
-
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications (Provide up to five (5) bullet points: these can include soft skills)

Exposure to data center protocols such as Routing, VXLAN, EVPN, or segment routing,

Exposure to open-source tools, network automation, or configuration frameworks

Prior experience building infrastructure at scale
